I'm concerned about all our members in Southern California.....but I don't know who you all are......can we have a roll call? Anyone who knows anyone or if you're in that area, lets keep an ongoing check list of everyone so we know everone's ok......

I hope all our members and their loved ones are safe. Who/Where are our Southern Cali members?

Ah, yes, I remember the Santa Ana winds (we use to get off school!) when I lived in Coronado in the 1960s.

I don't know anyone living in Malibu though; my brother is in Huntington Beach and brother-in-law in Santa Barbara.

As if you didn't know already, I'm not too far from the Castaic Fire, which hasn't been publizied for some reason. If you hear any mention of Santa Clarita, Fillmore or Santa Paula, those towns are all about 10 miles from where my youngest son lives and 15 to 60 miles from where I live.

Thanks for your concern, Hon! Who/Where are our Southern Cali members?

We've got fires all around us, but not near us. Lots of smoke though, reason I'm not in class tonight. There are fires going on in Santa Clarita, Castaic, Agua Dulce, Malibu, Santa Paula, and many parts of San Diego are burning too. I have many friends down in San Diego on madatory and voluntary evacs. My area is pretty safe, fire-wise but it is really hard to breath outside.

We go through these things every year but this was pretty frigtening considering how many fires sprouted up in one day. Last time we delt with something this big was about 4 years ago. The Simi Valley fire (I live in Simi Valley... my city was pretty much surrounded as was our neighbor city, Moorpark) was huge and after it many people and animals came down with what came to be known as Valley Fever. This was caused by the burnt areas exposing and aerosolizing a bacteria that is usually burried under the chapparal. Please, if you are around here, stay inside as much as you can and keep your pets inside. One of my dogs, Daisy Mae, almost died after that fire from Valley Fever. She couldn't eat, had serious diarhea and was severely dehydrated requiring two days of IV fluids. Be careful in these burn areas!!!

Ok! Now I'm pissed!! I can find out more info here about the fires that I can get from my son! Who/Where are our Southern Cali members? I haven't heard from him since this morning. I've called his cell and it goes straight to voice mail. Then I read this...

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
Mandatory evacuations were ordered in Halsey Canyon, Val Verde, Oak Springs and parts of Piru, Gililland said.

</div></font></blockquote><font class="post">

Thanks, Beth!!

My home in So Calif is in the Antelope Valley. I have to go through Acton & Aqua Dulce to get anywhere from where I live. Mountains all around me. The Santa Clarita fire 3 years ago landed me in the hospital for 10 days from the smoke. It caused an asthma attack (& I never had asthma before). The Valley Fever is a serious issue with the fires around So Calif....especially where the fires haven't burned in years.

Piru had a beautiful old victorian mansion that is used in movies & for weddings & social events. I took a tour of it with an interior design class I was taking. It had burned down to the ground in one of the fires around Piru. The wildfires are horrible especially when they get pushed by the strong Santa Anna winds.

Take care.....most of us live in the city....miles away from the mountains that are actually burning (except for a few that are able to enjoy the mountain living) but the smoke is very dangerous too, as LizardL8y said.

Take care all So Calif residents,
Debbie

Rayna, I haven't heard from him today, but like I said in the other thread, "No news is good news" where he's concerned.

I saw an on-the-scene news report this morning from his town and they gave the all clear in his area. The skies were even bluer than they are here! Who/Where are our Southern Cali members? I may have to go visit him to get away from the smoke. LOL

Thanks for your concern, Sweetie! Who/Where are our Southern Cali members?

Things are easing up here. For the last two days we have had a lot of smoky air and soot. It is much less today, and the winds have eased up significantly. Most of the smoke we got was from the Stevenson Ranch and Castaic fires.

The fires this year are unfathomable imo!

Got your mask on Tomi? Please change your a/c filter often!

I have a friend who lives over there (Cali) and I went to Ph.D. school with her, and she is fine, thank Goodness...

We finally are getting rain in our draught area in Kentucky. I need to pack it up when I drive back to California in a couple of weeks. We need a good rain to drownd out the fires for sure.
