*sigh* I just went to pay my half of the rent for november, and was informed that there is still almost half a month owing for october.

Well, noone told me. And my roomate, although he doesn't have the best track record, had said that he paid it.

The thing that makes it even more confusing, is that.. ok let me try to explain this in a way that wont confuse you all lol.

We live in a building where our superintendants live below us. But our landlord/owner actually owns the restaurant where my roomate worked, up until he got suddenly laid off with no warning two weeks ago. He had been paying the rent directly to the owner at the restaurant.

now they are claiming that 192.00 wasnt paid last month.

Well, some of you know my roomate doesnt have the best track record, but considering that they laid him off so suddenly, and they have tried to kick us out on false terms before, something in this stinks of not being right. I havent talked to the roomate yet as he is working at his new job. I'll have to find out if he actually got a receipt, but until he was laid off suddenly(they also ripped him off a weeks pay, which he now has to go through the labour board for) i dont think he would have because it didnt even seem like an issue.

These are the same superintendants that also claimed that if we were on welfare again when he got laid off they would find a way to kick us out since we would be poor.. even though we could still afford the rent.

To make matters worse, my roomate is not going to have his half of the rent until two weeks from now when he gets his first pay. Thats not entirely his fault though and it stems from them laying him off.

I dont know, I just had to rant about this because better out then in right? Something just doesn't feel right to me here, someone is lying and I don't have a way to find out who. And I certainly am not paying it! I am on a very tight budget with my assistance now and planning for the baby.

Le sigh

Something similar happened to me, also, unfortunately, when I was pregnant and didn't need the stress. *sigh* What now? Not something else. I was working at a fast-food place which shall remain nameless and had arrived in town to live with my bf with very little cash on hand. The store manager loaned me the money for a deposit or my first month's rent or something on a disgusting, run-down apartment that was all I could afford. One morning when I went in to open, the manager came in and accused me of stealing the previous night's cash receipts and fired me. I asked her how she could prove it and she said she knew I did it because I needed money and she didn't need any more proof. I had another paycheck coming, and she took what I owed her out of my paycheck before giving me what was left of it! -- which, apparently everywhere but the Wild West, is called loan-sharking.

I'm really sorry you're going through this. Some people are just evil. I hope you get it all straightened out. *sigh* What now? Not something else. *sigh* What now? Not something else.

Rainbowzz, wow, I am sorry you are going through this--not something you need to deal with right now. Sorry, but I really don't have any solutions for you, but I wanted you to know I read your post and I feel for you.

Are you in the U.S.? There are laws about this kind of thing and I think there are agencies that monitor it.

Well frigging sigh.

I KNEW they were trying something. We got an eviction notice yesterday saying we owed 295.00 for this month, which I knew about, and 192.00 for last month. Well that 192.00 was paid to someone at the restaurant he owes, and has now gone missing.

Shawns going to talk to the owner today to see if we pay on the 16th if we can stay... im so anxious about this i feel like im going to pop.

Technically we dont even owe them the total of a whole months rent though, so we are technically just four days late on some of this months rent. Therefore, I should be able to fight this, because they are supposed to give you thirty days to pay before they can legally evict you. So now comes the process of trying to fight them up until the 21st.

That or maybe shawn will get through to them when he is there today, hes not home yet so I dont know. And i hate waiting, I really do hate not knowing if we are going to be ok or not.

Getting another place doesnt seem like an option because we simply dont have the money.

Le sigh. See? my instincts were totally on key.
