I was at an art opening and a man asked me what PsychCentral was (I had on my PsychCentral t-shirt). Have you ever tried to explain PC in 30 words or less? I found myself almost speechless—my brain just could not explain PC or sum up how important this place is to me…

there is this wonderful support network, great news, interesting and informative articles about mental health, blogs...pictures...and did I mention the wonderful support network?

What would you say?

A place that you can learn about your disease, about the drugs to help you heal and meet people in different stages of the healing process. And support

It saved my quality of life when desperate and searching. Even at 4 a.m., I was never alone and knew it. That was a major source of depression...the loneliness. Having others shares their insights helped me connect to my own.

Good question and thank you!

You mean you all don't carry around the brochure? :-)

"The Internet's largest and oldest independent mental health social network created and run by mental health
professionals to guarantee reliable, trusted information and support communities." (only 25 words :-)

Or, I guess I'd expand on "Learn. Share. Grow."

I always just say a "mental health support community that touches on everything from depresssion to alcoholism to bipolar etc". Thats usually my line when people ask me, because I always talk about "the forums" and they're like "huh?" Many have expressed interest and asked me for the web address but then I never see them here. People really get confused when I tell them I moderate the forums, that gets even more "huhs". LOL!!!

But my closer friends know what this place means to me. And my boyfriend knows that I love PC and is totally accepting when I get that feeling I need to pop on and tell him "I gotta check PC".

I guess I could tell people who ask me that its "the place that LITERALLY saved my life towards the end of my drinking. If I didn't have PC in those last 6 months, I wouldn't be here".

The forums part of PC: "A place where those who have emotional problems or have been diagnosed with mental illness can share with others who know what it is like." That does not give a sense of how supportive it is and how excellent is the information shared, though.

Yep, perna, I've already handed out the brochure to several and they're out in some offices around here. Can you sum up PC in 30 words or less?

I was putting into words more my personal experience in few words (because I could go on for a year...lol). I was thinking about when I first joined here and the first things that helped me within this community.

Now, if we're speaking of PC as a whole....WHEW...and trying to encapsulate that...

I would say...

It has something for everyone, and a little to alot about almost everything. I would mention the support community, resources and blog mainly because they're so informative to anyone looking for "quick" answers/explanations.

What is here is the BEST of much in one place to truly enable one to wholly participate in a self-help community. It empowers the member by giving them the tools to do/learn what they can for self outside of the professional atmosphere.

A place where I have requested to have my account removed...and has not yet happened...I have been struggling intensely in my personal life, which may affect my opinion...but I posted something here which had almost no replies which is ok...I am sorry that I have not been one of your own..I have been overwhelmed and su recently...There is no real support here, only for familiar names...I have been a Mod somewhere else and we never ignored those in need...I am pleading that you remove me from your group...For me you are not safe, nor supportive...I hope that You All will be ok...
