I know this is normal but thunderstorms and the wind just scare me to death. So much so I started to cry.Does anyone else get effected by storms.Whenever I know a storm is coming I just completely lose it.For instance when I first moved into my new apt 8 years ago we had a hurricane no power for almost two weeks,All I had was a radio thank god for that and two small flashlights but for two weeks I have very bad panic attacks because that is when I heard we were going to have a hurricane.Try living two weeks without power thank goodness we have a generator even when the power goes out now it messes up everything.I have to wait almost 20-30 minutes to get everything to work again. Then naturally I get scared that nothing will work.I need my pc phone and tv.I am elderly woman and scared enough .

I understand completely how you feel. It’s really nerve racking. I try to do my best to stay calm during storms, I just sit in the dark quietly and wait till they are over.

I don't fear them, however I do get triggered by them past childhood memories.. |

Oh... with that kind of storm experience no wonder you worry.
I do and I don't. It depends on where I am and the circumstances. When at home in the city it doesn't even occur to me to be nervous. In fact, I enjoy a good light show. However, put me out in the wilderness with a tent camper and I really get quite worried. The anxiety starts early as a hot humid day tends to become rather stormy and thus as the thermometer rises so does the worry. |

When you have gone through a very bad storm similar to these storms it is NORMAL to have them trigger an anxiety response like you are experiencing.
I only saw the after effects of a huge tornado that went through Topeka Kansas as a kid. (Arrived the week after it happened) If I had actually gone through it I know I would be a lot more concerned & worried when our tornado warnings happen.

I used to be scared of storms. Now i do enjoy the mild storms. When i was little i got caught in the 1987 edmonton tornadoe it scared me for many years. I get scared still when it's hot and thunderstorms are in the forecast
