Does anyone work in noisy office in cubicles with typing, talking and laughing, phones, etc and the noises just make it so difficult to focus. Headphones work yes somewhat and so does getting adequate sleep (tired today). Does anyone have diagnosed misphonia and find some noises just irritate or irk you to the point of you are just annoyed and hard to get much done.

I experience misophonia with loud cars. I hate it. I hate the noise. I have a deep emotional reaction at times. Sorry you have misophonia with your office, zapatoes. Hugs.

Dnester, yes agree hearing people eat or especially chew is not pleasant. Certain noises I like such a the person next to me eating a crunchy carrot. But someone next to me snapping gum, no!

I have a problem with sounds when I try to read. It is like it drowns what I am trying to read.
I grew up in a small house & even my parents having the TV on made it impossible to read & study. I still have that happen. I keep my radio on 24/7 living alone but I have to turn the sound almost off when I am reading. Never diagnosed..just always work/worked around it

I don't have this problem, but I was wondering if you've tried noise canceling headphones? They are supposed to work really well. Not sure how much they cost though.

Yes wearing headphones and listening to music helps and noise canceling work to a point. Sometime may look into researching which noise canceling headphones work best.

The ONLY time I react negatively to noise is when I am in my OWN environment. Like when trying to watch a movie and there is noise in the house from the birds or the dogs or someone is talking on the phone. I have a built-in talent for shutting out anything that I don't want to hear when out in the world.

It just comes natural. If something has nothing to do with me I can ignore it.

That is great and sometimes can ignore things, but noise is a difficult one to ignore. Loud music in another car next to me or next door when lived in apartment can drive me nuts. Dislike hearing someone chew, but usually I’m in a noisy restaurant when eat with others or noisy break room at work so don’t hear someone chewing, but it bugs me if can hear someone chewing their food. Even people whispering at work bugs me and a constant clacking of typing on a keyboard, but that’s why likely have misphonia.

Ok...you may laugh? But...I actually like the sound of computer keys. (lol). Hearing someone whispering doesn't bother me, SEEING someone whisper bothers me. I work in an environment where gossip rules, (small southern town). And it just came to me....one sound I cannot stand is pans clanging around. My mother knew I hated that noise and always made as much noise with them as possible when getting them out of the drawer.

Ok sounds I love include:
1. Music of all kinds from classical to jazz to rock 2. Birds singing in the morning 3. Someone who’s happy and whistles to themselves 4. Babies cooing, gurgling and laughing. 5. Kittens purring, my dog softly breathing when he’s sleeping. 6. Ocean waves gently lapping at the shore. |

i never knew this had a name... with loud noises - babies crying/screaming, people shouting, cars hooting, people just making loud noise - i get almost enraged. at work i find it extremely difficult to concentrate on the conversation i'm in (eg, on the phone) if someone else is talking in earshot, which is almost always.

i don't really notice the sound of people chewing ever. the quieter noises usually don't bother me. at one point i had this problem with my dad tapping his feet though.... when we watched tv he would tap his feet really softly on the floor, and it drove me insane.
yeah, i have headphones in at all socially acceptable times, including driving - drive a motorbike. people have said it's not safe to drive like that, but i get more distracted by the different noises when i'm not listening to music. music feels like calm noise. |
