My social worker recommends that I get a peer support specialist. What do you do with yours?

What exactly is a peer support specialist? I facilitate a peer support group, but have never heard of a peer support specialist.

I’ve never heard of a peer support specialist...it sounds interesting. I know this post wasn’t helpful in answering your question, but I’m thinking of you and wanted to let you know. 🙂

i am a peer support specialist

a PSS uses their own recovery story (substance use and/or mental illness) to support a peer with similiar backgrond. they can also facilitate peer support groups on differing topics. i am leading one on living with worry right now. sometimes a PSS works in the community doing one on one meetings with peers kinda like peer counseling.

any questions...hit me up.

I have one and I am trying to figure out what exactly she is trying to do. All we do is meet and talk. We both have different diagnosis’s she is also a recovered alcoholic. She is a nice person but I don’t get much out of it,

I had a peer support person
For breast cancer, it did not
Help at all, she called and her diagnosis and remission
was too far ahead of me....
Then the treatment team came at me in a rush.... I was a serious mess,
And still haven't found my feet.

I am sorry to hear all you been through. 🤗🤗 Thanks for sharing your story with me. I am glad I am not alone with my experience with a peer support specialist. I think I might talk and explain I don’t feel it is helping me. I hope you beat cancer. I am praying for you. I wish I could offer you a real hug. You are strong and will overcome. I believe in you.
