Well, I have this bad cold, now going into my chest. I promised my daughter I'd come to KY to the cabin they rented for the week, and I was supposed to drive there today (3 hours), but I don't feel up to it. She called me this morning, waking me, all excited to have me come, and I said I would, but now up and moving around, I know it would be a mistake to try to drive. Everybody who has this virus says it is a mistake to overextend yourself, as it hits back with a vengeance. I hate to disappoint the twins but I also don't want to get worse! What should I do?
LOve and Merry Christmas to all of you.
Patty

Hi Patty,
I'm so sorry you're sick! Your daughter is old enough to understand your not coming due to illness. I would be honest with her. Additionally, I don't think she would want her twins exposed. Maybe you could tell her you're staying home because you don't want to infect the kids? Maybe schedule another special Christmas for when you're well?

You need to stay in and take care of yourself. Whatever you need to say to make that happen, then that's what I'd say.
Take good care.
((((((Patty)))))))

Love,
Okie

(( patty )) Merry Christmas and I'm sorry you're sick on Christmas!

I think since you don't know that you will get worse, you could choose what to do without that being a factor. A nice leisurely drive with good music, maybe staying not as long as you might if you were feeling 100%, a nice drive home and lots of good healthy food and plenty of water, getting plenty of rest when you get home... sounds like it might be a way to do it and have a wonderful time. Sick at Christmas...can't go anywhere!

Oh, that's so sad, Patty! I think you have to stay home though and take care of yourself. I'm having extra trouble with my asthma this morning and am praying I don't end up in some ER later. I would call and see if you can come up later this week; we're doing our celebration with my husband's family on Friday, no reason to "rush" the week; suggest stretching it out and go up in a few days when you are feeling better?

Thanks, Perna, Echoes, and Okie!
I agree that a leisurely drive could be okay, but I am rather dizzy and my head is stopped up. I've been taking the cold meds (though none this morning) and they make me not so alert, also, making me reluctant to get under the wheel and drive for 3 hours. And, yes, I am pretty germy, coughing and sneezing, etc. I'll probably just stay here.
Love to you all!
Patty

I hope you held back and are taking care of YOU. You can celebrate a little later when you are better.

I was unable to do this for myself last Saturday. My mom was moved from ICU/hospital to a rehab center, and though my sister came over from Tampa to do this, she expected and relied up me for a few things. I had already taken all of Friday to rest and thought I had a handle on my bronchitis and pain, so I pushed Saturday. It wasn't worth it. I am still under par even having rested since, and now must go do some things for my mom today, as my sister has long since left and Mom has no family to help (honestly!) I will do minimal to get by and through this day, maybe 2 hours only, total.

Please don't put yourself behind, and stay home and rest. You will heal sooner that way.

Merry Christmas anyway! Sick at Christmas...can't go anywhere!

I "lost" breakfast and have been in bed since -- only awake briefly, to greet my sister's guests -- so my deepest sympathies on being sick today! Right now I"m just hoping I'm able to drive home tomorrow, since I'm due at work Thursday.

Candybear and Sky! You both know what I'm talking about. And, Candy, please take care driving home. Like you, I also have to go get well enough to go back to work next week and I can't afford to miss more since I have taken off so much already.
Sky, I know what you mean by pushing yourself, as I did this when my mom was here and in the hospital. I think that is why I am trying to get better rather than making trips and visiting family nearby today.
Love
Patty

Ohhh, man. Everything I have tried to eat today, I have seen again 10 minutes later. Right now even sitting up is making me want to barf, so I'm going back to bed.

Hugs to you, Patty, and anyone else who is sick today!
