Hey, so today I had my appt at the psychiatrist I bought my mum along to help explain. I told him I have problems with planning my day and that like I still had problems with pulling my hair. My mum wanted to explain how I've been sick for a long time and haven't improved he dismissed her entirely and told her to shut up. He said he recommended I have one on one counselling. Well anyway, I left because I forgot to ask about group therapy I returned and asked about it, he said that one on one counselling would be better for me. Anyway kind of upset because I feel like he was rude to my mum and I am anxious about it in by it. Doctor thinks I have borderline personality disorder I disagree I think I have more PTSD symptoms, because of concentration and executive problems with functioning. My friend thinks I'm mildly autistic it's all very confusing. I'm afraid I won't get the help I need and improve in life

Sorry you had a bad experience. If you are uncomfortable with this psychiatrist, is there a way for you to get a second opinion from another one?
Thanks for this!

Yeah maybe try therapy instead. My understanding with all the diagnoses you've mentioned in your post is you don't necessarily need medication for it. I've heard bpd doesn't respond to meds, for instance. And I'd be very put off if I felt a psychiatrist was misdiagnosing me, on top of being rude.

I’m sorry he was rude to your mum, she was trying to support you, and in turn help him.
I would also suggest a second opinion. PTSD and autism can coexist; both can cause executive functioning issues. There are people who specialise in diagnosing autism who might be able to help parse out which it might be in your case, if not both, but I’m not sure how exactly you’d find one.
You know yourself best, though. If you feel group therapy is best for you, try and hold out for that. Doctors can make suggestions/recommendations, pretty sure they can’t force you to follow them though (within reason!).

The psychiatrist shouldn't have told your mother to shut up, but I wonder if he wanted to hear more from you about your symptoms than from her. After I turned 18, I didn't have my mother in the room when I saw my psychiatrist.

Have you looked into other options? There must be someone who can help? At school?

A lot of young ladies with ASD get misdiagnosed with BPD, since they can appear similar. It is very important to determine what is going on because the diagnosis, especially BPD, can lead to harsh assumptions and potentially, psychological harm. Treatment isn't usually successful if the diagnosis is incorrect.

In an ideal world, if autistic traits are observed, an assessment should be done before a personality disorder is diagnosed even though the two can be comorbid.

P.S. Some psychiatrists are full of ****. Literally.
