I thought peer pressure would go away after high school but I'm wrong. It's evident in every workplace. I worked for the Air Force 20 years ago and got a slew of criticism from bosses and people I thought I made friends with.

I agree. Peer pressure is everywhere. Sometimes I wish I was a hermit.

I find it difficult too. Also, because I don't feel like I fit in, but I don't even know how to fit in.

I never paid attention to peer pressure. I always did what I knew was right no matter what anyone tried to pressure me to do. Actually, I ended up being more respected in the long run for standing strong & not being pushed around by others opinions

Peer pressure, in what ways? I don’t feel pressured. Could you give an example?

Everybody's a critic. If their criticism has merit, I'll stop and reflect. If not, “Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man."

I honestly care less and less about what people think the more time goes on. I know my worth.

You don't feel pressured in the workplace? There was great pressure working for the govn't. Bosses and other people criticized me for not being social and they got on me because I didn't seem happy. I eventually quit and told them they can have their job. There were too many people trying to be leaders with massive egos and butting heads.

Wow, I never felt peer pressure in my computer engineering career & I started out the only female in our group. I was just one of the guys in the group & it was nice

No I don’t feel any pressure. Oh yeah we have some people with egos. I just focus on my job. I don’t worry about their egos. Now of course I feel pressured by doing this and that but that’s just work demands. Not peer pressure.

You not being social or not looking happy isn’t really anyones business. I’d not let it bother me. Honestly I am too busy at work to worry about who thinks what. Quitting job isn’t an option for most people. Got to pay bills.

If you are harassed and discriminated on the job (due to not being social), then filing a complaint might be an option

Good post. ''Peer pressure'' is a bore, and belongs in the school playground, at best.

It was on the school playground where I learned to stand strong against peer pressure. Definitely a good training ground

In school I always hated and avoided peer pressure.Once in junior high ,a group of bullies decided all should wear a particular color to school on a Monday. They even warned some of us nerds ,do it or else ?.When someone talks in warning tones I take the route of noncompliance.

I wore entirely different color and different style on that Monday. All gave me silent treatment for a week including my own friends. A lot of guys paid attention to me that day because I was looking gorgeous and different,so friends got jealous I guess.Who cares? So bottom line is ..do whatever you want to. But make sure you are not hurting any one in any way.

The issue for me in school is that I believe I was on the autism spectrum but undiagnosed. I did well in the classroom and got the best grades. But the other kids thought I was weird. There were two years where I had no friends at all. It was very tough. Then I moved to a school where I was not the only weird kid and found fellow weirdos to hang out with.

Yeah it's nice to have other ''weirdos'' to hang out with. I'm probably one too. I don't think I'm on the autism spectrum (I have a friend who is) and Papa bear is (very high functioning)

I have recently found online support groups for people on the spectrum. It's awesome!
