Having trouble finding a therapist, they're all booked. I should have thought about this beforehand.

They do have the DBT workbook online that you can do on your own. I actually would prefer to do it with a group though.

Anxiety is a huge problem for me. Gabapentin has been extremely helpful with treating anxiety.

Thing is, anxiety is a symptom. Meds treat symptoms to make one feel a little better, they don't treat the cause of the symptom & that is what really needs to be treated just like with physical illnesses

That's true in many cases. It may not be in some. Anxiety can also be related to physical illness. And it can be a genetic disorder. For example, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) tends to run in families, and IBS is often directly related to anxiety disorders. There's some kind of mind-gut connection that is not fully understood. And, let's face it - mental illness is still so poorly understood. There are a thousand theories, but no one truly knows what exactly causes mental illness. I find that if I can decrease my anxiety with medication then I can work with it using "tools" I have learned. If I'm so anxious that I've slipped into delusional thinking, all the meditation, CBT, DBT in the world will not only not help, it will worsen my anxiety. Without medication I would be in a dangerous place. __________________ |

My anxiety is not too bad, but I definitely need medication for my depression.

DBT isn't as rudimentary (and often invalidating) as CBT tends to be. Sometimes anyway.. __________________ |

I think any therapy that challenges our thinking that really hasn't been working well for us feels invalidating. Any time our thinking is challenged we feel that way but that is when I sit back & analyze the way I have been thinking against the challenge & determine exactly where my thinking fits in & what I may need to work on changing. No one tells me what to do but it is an analysis process that is important for me to go through & decide for myself
