I never knew Wil Wheaton (Stand by Me, Star Ttek Next Gen, Big Bang Theory) struggles with depression and anxiety. This is the text of an address he made to NAMI.
My name is Wil Wheaton. I live with chronic Depression, and I am not ashamed. – WIL WHEATON dot NET |

That was very good. I had no idea he had two adult children!

He also has c-PTSD. Apparently he is very vocal about his mental health, stating if more people were willing to talk about mental health there would be less stigma.

Man, just another reason to love Wil Wheaton. I've always been a big fan. He recently did a film, Rent-A-Pal, that was so good - it's a horror/comedy/thriller, and so off the beaten path and witty.
And I love that he is open about his struggles. It's hard to be open for anyone, even more so as a celebrity, I imagine, trying to keep an image that will keep you employed, etc. Good on him. __________________ What if I fall? Wow, Lizardlady! That was a great read. Thanks for sharing that.
From his pen, to God's ears. I hope it opens people's eyes, and helps many more. I personally put off getting help on account of the stigma, myself. Ultimately, it became abundantly clear that was not the way to go. I am glad I got the help I need when I did. It wasn't world-class or overwhelmingly humane, like I'm certain Wil's experience was; but it was enough to set me on a healing path. Any kind of care is almost always better than unnecessary suffering. |
