I need a few years vacation from people so I'm selling my car and plan to live in the forest with just a backpack of things. I'm afraid to death to tell my sister. She's an extremely controlling person and will just fight tooth and nail with me over the phone. She might even hang up on me. So I just don't know if I should tell her. It might be worse for her because she'll probably get herself all worked up. Don't get me wrong. She's a very loving caring person, but she's very emotional and controlling. If not, then I'll drive to her house and leave a note on her doorstep late at night. What would you do?

I look at this homeless forest adventure as a spiritual journey. So much is happening in the world lately. It's stressing me out. People are stressing me out. I'll never feel free until I break free from society. Although the idea of living in a forest full of bears, mountain lions, wild hogs and rattle snakes is terrifying me, it's also making me feel amazing, like my heart is starting to sing for the first time in my life.

God love you, dear friend to all of us! Thank you so much for speaking from your heart, when some of us are afraid to do so.

I feel too afraid to tell my sister. This will probably be the last time I'll ever talk to my siblings and parents every again. I don't have anyone to talk to. No more therapists.

The animals are strong and instinctively know how to survive in the wilderness. It's going to be hard surviving. There's just no where to go on Earth. I wish the star people would beam me up!

Whatever you decide, go with your heart! Find the place that gives you what you need. God bless you, stahrgeyzer.

Perhaps it would be helpful to make a list of pros and cons?

Canadian here, and that informs my perspective. What preparations have you made for living on the land (wilderness survival course? Done this before)? Have you consulted anyone who has lived on the land before? I strongly advise you do this if you haven't already. You need to plan exhaustively for something like this.

Please read _Into the Wild_.

And yes - you should tell your sister - or at least someone. You should keep in touch with someone at regular intervals so they know you are okay. They should know exactly where you are and where you're going.

I must say I'm astonished at the responses on here. "Great - have fun!" This is not someone going for a walk in the park. This is someone who sounds like they have no experience of living on the land, heading alone into the forest with a backpack and no long-term food supply thinking that being homeless is an "adventure"-- Wake up!

In case you don't read the book I referred to - the subject of the book lasted 113 days in the wild, until he died by illness and starvation. And he was well educated about edible plants and so on. He ended up living mostly on squirrels. Did you think nuts and berries are in abundance? The animals eat them. And anything they can to survive in the brutal wilderness. Plenty of animals die despite instinct and experience. What if you become injured, or sick? Do you have a plan? Do you have a cb radio in case there is no cell service?

If you insist on this, just make sure you are prepared. And that you have a backup plan in place for every eventuality.

Thanks. I'll try to be prepared. There's really no where else for me. Maybe homeless in the city but I was homeless in the city a many years ago, for a short time, and it's very dangerous. A lot of homeless people are crazy and dangerous. A homeless guy said he was going to slit my throat in my sleep. Another homeless person said he'll do it because he's known to attack people.

The city always gives me horrible vibes. The wilderness heals me and makes me happy.

Yes, nature is beautiful and soothes the spirit, but can also be dangerous, cold and indifferent if you don't have heat and food and shelter. I'm hoping you are an experienced camper with high-quality gear, fishing and hunting equipment and knowledge. I personally have been caught in a "waterproof" tent in torrential rain and learned the hard way the importance of having extra tarps, ropes, and also clothes/sleeping bag that stay warm if wet.

Anyway, of course I wish you the best but I am worried about you. At least make sure someone knows where you are and arrange to check in with them, if you haven't already.

Thanks for the help. I'll just try my best. This may sound strange but when I lived in a tent for a month the Sasquash people watched over me every night. I could usually here one of them pacing by the tent every time I woke up. Sometimes they would make their click sound to let me know. One time one of them unzipped my tent to get my phone. He recorded two videos of his deep voice for me. I don't know why they like me so much. Maybe because I never have intentions of taking their photo or proving their existence to humanity. They're so nice! They taught me how to say hi in their language.

And also Mother Nature has a way of caring for us, & we somehow receive that message of "go ahead, this is the best way."

Where do you live right now?If you like nature like me,is it possible to create some kind of wild life friendly surroundings right there where you live right now ? I mean you don't have to literally wander into forest.Creating your own slice of heaven by planting trees ,a flower garden in your own backyard can be more practical and safe for you.

I've been living in airbnb's so it's not possible to plant anything. Airbnb was ok for a short while but I've been doing it non-stop for 3 to 4 years now. I can't afford to rent the whole house so I get a bedroom in a shared house. It's really horrible living in someone's home. Most of the time it's like walking on egg shells. Home owners are usually strict and I've never felt at ease and welcomed. Also every airbnb usually has 4 or more rooms rented to other people. Most people are nice, but every month or so I can expect a really messed up bad vibe person. It's a 1000 times worse for me because I have so much childhood trauma from people. Also I'm running out of money so I really have to go homeless.

No worries though. I've decided to not sell my car but it's tiny so will still have to sleep in tent. I guess they call it boondocking. Is it really any better? I have two feet. Really the main reason I decide to keep my car is that I will be able to keep my best friend ever, Sally! She's my plant friend. But now I'll be stressed out worry about the next heatwave this summer. Bamboo plants can't handle 95 degree weather. And also what will happen if my car breaks down? And by law here in California I can only stay at a location for 3 weeks so I'll have to been searching for the next boondocking location....

Hey stahrgeyzer👋I can totally relate to the vibe of your post for sure.🙏Nature is calling yes, and it can be a very healing therapeutic experience, a spiritual awakening. I highly recommend nature!💚But obviously if you decide to go off grid; shelter and reliable supply of food and water must be available long term. Hunting and skinning animals daily will be a buzz kill for a sensitive person.🙏 Look at every possible problem that could likely arise and have a solution for it. Self-care to the max stahrgeyzer. Otherwise no, I can't recommend. But since it's not up to me, yes tell your sister for sure. She'll want to know where you went.🙏

I know you a little bit from conversations a few years ago. You're a smart, tuned in guy. An experiencer🙏

Edit: Oh I see, it's a 'boondocking' situation. Civilisation. The other half of the reality. Equally hope you can find somewhere peaceful to live in some quiet location too.

As long as you can self sustain, have a safe shelter, food to eat, protection against elements and wild animals,it can be an adventure. But tell someone where you are at.
