Was going to start a support group today, but changed my mind, ended up walking around for 3 hours instead.
Still don’t feel like I belong around people

Bummer. I am starting a new support group tomorrow. Just try again. New things can be scary. I’m nervous and excited about the new support group I’m starting.
Was there anything about it that made want to try it to begin with that focusing on may help encourage you to walk through the door next time? What scared you about it? Start with something as simple as that. Post a list here on this thread. It may help out. It may help someone else.
Thanks for this!

Is it a weekly or monthly group?

Tell yourself that you will go one or two times only to check it out. Do not make a big commitment.

Walking around where you're kind of among people anyway (unless it's out in the woods or what have you) can have its own benefits too really.👍

With walking I don’t have to talk to anyone, I don’t mind people, I like them. I just feel like I’m not real one of them, and the minute I open my mouth they’d know.

I would just like not to feel lonely, but I kind of have to learn to accept it

Yeah, I hear you OafFish and actually I can relate to that quite a lot.

The mind is a complex thing obviously and everyone has their own set of 'unique'... traits which have to be taken into consideration, so for me in that regard, I said to myself (and this could be relevant to your wanting to attend the group): I'm just going to do what my heart is telling me to do in the hopes that it will work out well in the end. It might be really good and I may come away smiling quite a bit, or it may completely do my head in and shatter me - but I will find out. I have to do it. And if it doesn't go well then basically contemplate a new approach to, in your case, ending the loneliness.

And always try to frame these experiences in a positive light (as best you can) , I think it's good for the self esteem OafFish. You didn't ask for advice, sorry, but that's how I go about it. And I can live myself either way, whatever happens.
Thanks for this!

In terms of self esteem, I’m not sure if I have too little or too much.

I’ll try to look at groups again, it seems the most likely way to be around people.

Try to go. You don't have to open up. Just listen until you feel comfortable.

It can be. My mind is ever running, ever wary of traps and suspicious of everyone’s behavior and intent, especially my own

My cub is far too friendly and trusting sometimes. She gets hurt so often. I keep telling her to be more wary.

It's good that you protect your heart, but I guess that could go too far, leaving someone isolated... (idk)
