I've had 2 annoying medical issues lately that really didn't seem to have much to do with my pregnancy. 1) I've had a bad cough (no head cold - just a cough) and my stomach muscles are so weak from coughing so much, and of course I really can't take much medication for it, and 2) during my routine biweekly pee-in-a-cup check at my OB, they found some strep in my pee. No big deal, they said, and gave me some amoxicillin (which I didn't want to take, but they scared me into it) to clear it up.

Today, I was out in the garden and had a mild coughing fit, and all of a sudden I felt a huge POP! Holy moly - I was sure that something had just burst in my back. My husband ran to my neighbor's house, since she is a nurse, and she said that she suspected it was a kidney infection based on the strep and the location of the pain. So we rushed to the hospital and they did some tests and determined that my kidneys are fine, but I either cracked or dislocated a rib! AGGGHHH!!!! She said it's fairly common in pregnancy since all of my organs are smooshed upwards to make room for my huge uterus (33cm at this point), and there isn't much room for my ribs to "give" when I cough.

It hurts so badly if I cough, laugh, or breathe deeply. So, because the only thing that will "cure" it is rest, they gave me percocet to alleviate the coughing and to knock me out so I can get to sleep. @$&*(#! - I didn't want to take any medication, let alone this much! The doctor assured me that it will be fine for the baby on a very short-term basis, but I'm so bummed out. I was finally feeling pretty good after that nonsense with my pelvic bones separating, and I've been exercising a lot - 4 hours of swimming and 2 hours of yoga per week, and as many walks as I could get in, and now it's all come to a halt all over again OWWWWWWW!!!!!!

I realize that it could be worse - this is very painful for me, but at least it's not an infection that could harm the baby. But still - 56 days can't come soon enough. I know that I'll be dealing with a whole new set of issues then, but this pregnancy thing is not nearly as fun as I was fantasizing it would be for me OWWWWWWW!!!!!!

No need to respond - just ranting.

Oh, what lousy luck. You obviously can't rush that being in the garden stuff. Hope you feel better soon and can get back to some of your usual routine. Hoping May comes early this year :-)

eeeeeee! Lmooooo OWWWWWWW!!!!!! OWWWWWWW!!!!!! OWWWWWWW!!!!!! OWWWWWWW!!!!!!

Oh my god, go to bed! Be careful! Take the meds if you need to, the doctors know if its bad or not and usually pain meds on the short term won't hurt too much other than slowing baby down a bit, is what they told me.

thanks everyone. this is so surreal. I can't believe this kind of pain - and to think that I have it easy with just a rib. I can't imagine how chronic pain sufferers or people who have been in major car accidents feel OWWWWWWW!!!!!!

it's 7am and I'm sitting in the car with a pillow and blanket (and cell phone). I can't find a position in my bed that isn't excruciating. when my husband wakes up, i'm going to ask him to take me to acupuncture to see if that helps.

thanks for your support...

(ps - Chalmette - it's a girl!)
