so about a month ago i noticed blood in my cat's stool. (we have 3 cats and a dog). we took a sample to the vet and they didnt find any parasites. we tried changing their food. we tried changing their litter. we gave her special soft food. we tried everything! and 3 weeks later it was bloodier than ever.

so i took another sample into the vets and they found giardia. we have to give all our pets medicine for it since they said if one has it, they probably all have it. and i can get it too!

i had to sanitize their rug that the litter boxes sit on. i had to completely empty out their boxes, lysol it down in the bathtub and scrub them and vacuum all around their litter boxes and then spray arm and hammer pet stuff on the floor. we also vacuumed the entire house like twice and washed everything.

hopefully this gets rid of it because i dont want to spend another 90 bucks at the vet on parasite medication.

i am glad that it was a parasite though. cause if it wasnt we would have had to do x-rays and all kinds of tests. i guess she said the reason it didnt show up the first time is because the eggs hadnt started shedding yet so it didnt show up on the fecal float. silly pets. they get sick 10 times more than we do! lol. but theyre my babies giardia!

Sorry to hear about your cats and I hope that they're on the mend soon. They're a pain, but what would we do without them?

Yes, easy for humans to get and easy to spread. Any clue how your cat got it?

perna - the problem is that its just about everywhere. she said that hera could have had it as a kitten and just never showed signs until now. hera was born in the shelter and consuela and zeke were both strays picked up by the shelter. so one of them could have had it, given it to hera, and hera was the only one to show signs. i could have picked it up on my shoe, tracked it on the carpet and then they licked the floor or their paws. there are too many ways to know how she got it.

when i picked up the medicine she said "yeah you can get it, but trust me, youll know if you have it." which to me sounds like id be feeling like crap or something.

I was at a pet store today with an attached vet's office and saw a leaflet on it and thought of you :-)

lol. i should take out stock in my vet's name. seriously. we spend more money on pets than anything.

when we first adopted hera, they did a horrible job on her spay at the shelter. so about a week later i saw that the end of the suture (where the knot was) had dug itself into the wound! so it wouldnt heal. I had to plcuk it out with tweezers and rub neosporin on it for a week so it wouldnt get infected.

2 out of the 3 cats have had tapeworm in the last year. lucy always has to have her %#@&#! glands expressed. consuela had serious sinusitis. zeke had ringworm that he then gave to me and my boyfriend.

and we havent even had them a year! lol. theyre so awesome though. i love them giardia!

sounds like your cats are lucky to have you looking after them.
