Funny how the new forum software can generate simple lists like this:
<TABLE BORDER=0>
<TR><TD COLSPAN=2>
Top 10 posters
</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>ozzie</TD><TD>4903</TD></TR><TR><TD>darkeyes</TD><TD>3533</TD></TR><TR><TD>Lady_Dragus</TD><TD>3458</TD></TR><TR><TD>SeptemberMorn</TD><TD>3404</TD></TR><TR><TD>Fuzzybear</TD><TD>3292</TD></TR><TR><TD>PlanningtoExist</TD><TD>2455</TD></TR><TR><TD>dexter</TD><TD>2088</TD></TR><TR><TD>Zenobia</TD><TD>1972</TD></TR><TR><TD>Rapunzel</TD><TD>1839</TD></TR><TR><TD>Dorian</TD><TD>1768</TD></TR></TABLE>

You should be proud (!??!) of yourselves!! Top posters

Yo DocJohn,

What is the deal on this rating thing????

I understand change happens but this much at once?

What is the purpose of rating threads/posts?

I do like the ignore feature though!!!! Top posters

It is a feature of the new software that, for now, cannot be readily disabled so I thought we'd try it. It is likely that when we upgrade to the latest version of the software when it becomes available later this month, we will be able to disable this feature.

Rating threads (and posters, which can be disabled and is) is something that can come in handy in certain communities (such as technical support communities). It lets readers know this is a 'quality' thread and likely has content that others will also find helpful or the like.

In a support community, it doesn't make much sense, I agree...

Ratings...hmm..of course I just gave my post on the suicide walk a 5 Star Review! :-) I'm tempted to bump it up every day, but I refrain. I think that's cheating!

And on the Ignore feature - ya know what I predict:

"Hey, emmy, why do you keep posting all those stupid blank posts?? Huh???"

"Um....dodo, take me off Ignore!"

And don't forget that quality of posts counts too...

Not to demean "the list" because they are all quality posters on the list. Just "size isn't everything" Top posters

Crimeny Lady_D... don't you know that some of us here have OCD??? Top posters Top posters Top posters

So I just HAD to set up an excel spreadsheet to calculate it (I got the registration dates from each person's profile)

So now I know, of the top ten (there could be members who have a lessor number of total posts that joined more recently and have a higher post-per-day count of anyone on the top ten list), I know who has the most posts per day, the least posts per day, and how I rank in posts per day.

I was looking around a little, and in the member profile, it shows the "member number". I found out that our beloved darkeyes is member number *EIGHT*! The other folks who are still around from when I joined are CamW and bptoo who are 249 and 385, respectively. So darkeyes really wins the "charter member" award for this forum. Top posters

Wow, quite a variety of outlooks and views on the subject, all very interesting.

Most of all I would like to congradualate DARKEYES for being the 8th member of the forum, however many posts..shows dedication and loyality to the group. Wishing you the best DarkEyes and thanks for the support that you have given me.

For myself, I am not even sure how many posts I have somewhere in the sevreal hundreds, as I feel for me I guess I do not pay much attention to how many posts I have made as a factor to drive me to 'compete' or rush through and post just to be posting to rack up the numbers. I feel regardless of the number of posts the most important is that we are here to share and support one another in our personal experiences.

As I am sure the posts and the number are recorded I think it is important no to set out to beat a record or simply ranomly post without sincere meaning or well intent to that of the author of the thread.

To me The number of posts should represent the number of attempts to support.

This is just my outlook on posting. Hope things are going well for all.

Take Care-

On one message board I used to be on, people's post number became a real issue... not arguments about it, just people "for fun" posting nonsense to get their post number up, but it became rampant and very annoying to most members.

It got so bad there they changed the software options so that the number of posts was no longer displayed beside a persons name when they posted (you could still see post totals in their profile, but it was no longer in the face of everyone in every thread) and they had to make a rule banning "congratulations" threads whenever anyone hit a milestone, like their 1000th post. There would always be a huger "party" thread, not in itself too bad, but then others close to 1000 would be encouraged to put up a lot of short meaningless posts to reach the milestone also.

Sheesh!

I had a knee jerk reaction when I first saw this but I think people here keep it in perspective, so it won't become a problem. I agree with Kris that it has little to do with anything, other than for some interesting fun. That's why I felt OK to joke about it... on the other board I wouldn't do that because people would be clamoring for the results.

>>I found out that our beloved darkeyes is member number *EIGHT*!

Bit of sad irony here, de has been unable to log on since the software change. I am hoping DocJohn has a fix very soon because she really wants to be back here...

Just a thought if any of you have her email and want to "keep her company" while she's waiting to get back on, maybe it would make the wait easier?
