The time had come for me to kind of start narrowing down intended careersand I've been doing alot of thinking on careers I would like to have. I've only ever seriously considered three and I feel really stupid for even considering the third. I've always secretly wanted to work in law enforcement..nobody knows but ever since I was a little girl I've wanted to be a police officer..fight crime..protect people. But I just don't know..I feel guily hiding this from my family and friends but I just feel like I'm being a silly little girl. That I couldn't do it or that people would laugh at me. I've started looking up infromation and I got a number to the recruting office for the state police department..I'm thinking about calling and getting more information. I need a springboard for this and I was wondering what other people thought. I would still go to college and get a degree..one related to law enforcement and then probably one in journalism so I could still work in publishing. I was just wanting feedback..

Women can be police officers. In fact, I would expect there is a lot of demand for female officers. What type of police work are you most interested in, or have you decided yet?

That's cool. A female cop lives in my apartment complex right down the hall. She keeps herself in top shape. I always get nervous, but she is real nice.. LOL

You can be anything you want to be!

Here's what you have to be able to do for Arkansas State Police:

I'd do a lot of physical workout stuff as that's the first test you have to pass.

I suggest doing what you think will make you happy. Besides, if you go to college, you can always change your mind later. You are not locked into a career for the rest of your life.

Deciding what to major in is important. I got a degree in psychology because it was a general degree that helped me understand people and was interesting. It opened a lot of doors for me because most jobs require you to understand and/or work with people. You might consider a general degree, like psychology, that would help you become an officer or something else. Keep your options open.

I am glad you are thinking about being a police officer--it shows how altruistic you are...I say go for it! Pursue your dream!

I think wanting to become a police officer is a great goal. I have a lot of respect for the police. Follow your dreams.

Don't think...do. Information is power,,,gather as much as you can...Call the state police and ask for the public relations officer...Speak to Him/Her and tell them just what you shared here...

They will direct you to the resources you need..

A wonderfull dream you have...we need great people in law enforcement...

Hey if law enforcement is something you are looking into, go for it. I always thought about doing it, but I just cannot get past the part of getting killed in the line of duty. Sure it is a risk that many take, but the important thing is that you will put your life on the line for so many other people. I think it is a great career. My father used to be a police officer, then he turned into a post man Opinions please lol
