so my kitty cat.... a while ago she was limping then it started to go away so we assumed that she hurt herself playing with one of the other cats. Well today she's back to limping, and now her ankle pops! every single time she steps! I picked her up, bent her paws backwards and she did nothing. But when I bent her paw towards her arm, she pulled it away. Isn't meowing in pain, and is still playing normal, running, jumping on and off the couch like normal. She acts like it's no big deal. But man, I dont have the money for 200.00 worth of x-rays! Again! I don't know how she could have broken anything so I don't think it's that serious. But she wont lay off it enough to allow it to heal. She keeps running around and jumping and I can't get her to just lay still and let it get better. I swear... these cats are the biggest pains in the butt. Anyone else ever have a kitty with a sprained ankle? What did you do for it?

I don't know what to suggest, but I agree about them being pains. Heh. I was supposed to keep mine quiet after their neuter/spay procedures. Fat chance. Maybe you could keep her in her carrier? (Good luck with that.)

Hey...maybe you can call and talk with a vet and see if they can work a deal.

I doubt your cat's ankle is sprained. Cat's have an incredible ability to land safely on their feet when falling from very high. (It's actually all physics, but that is another story)

It might me something more serious and if kitty is limping, it hurts.

Just my 2 cents....

then today when i got home her ankle wasn't popping anymore. she's not limping as bad as she was this morning. do you think it could be broken? i have no idea how she could have broken it though. crazy cat. well when we had x-rays done on my dog's neck they did 2 of them and it was like 150 for the x-rays, anti-inflammatory and the exam. ill call the vet tomorrow after i get out of class. we have spent so much money on their vet expenses lately my kitty's ankle because one had giardia, we had to treat all of them for it, lucy had an infection in her lymph nodes and we found out she has arthritis. ugh...

i called the vet this morning. she said that if it were broken it would be swollen and out of place which it isnt. i am keeping her in the computer room for the next couple days. the vet said that if i keep her in there for a few days and she keeps it going or it gets worse, then ill make an appt but she said it might have been just playing with the other cats.

I'm glad you talked to the vet. That's who is going to be able to help you the best.

Several years ago I found my cat limping one evening. He was also whimpering in pain. It was very scary for me. It was a weekend evening and the vet's office wasn't open so I paged the vet on call. We determined it was his knee. Not sure how it happened but the vet thought maybe a jump that went bad. The vet said it didn't sound like it was broken and would probably work itself out by morning. Fortunately it did otherwise we would have had to go see our vet the next business day.

Hope your kitty is better soon!
