No you are right there is not one. Maybe if you send a PM to Doc John he would take it into consideration?

Welcome jinzing!

We have discussed this before... and also a forum for those who are "over weight".... DocJohn has added quite a few forums for us this year... and now with the new server, he probably has room for plenty more!

Jinzing,
Welcome to the forums!. I'd be glad to bring this up in the Moderator Forum for you if you like. It sounds like an excellent idea to me. I have 15 years sober myself, so it would be of interest to me...

I hope you find everything your looking for here, and I look forward to hearing from you more!

Greg

I've got a few choice words to say about the subject but I'm too new at this form to have any confidence about what I can or should say. Can any mod out there tell me, can I mention other sites here where inquirers might look? where's the alcohol/substance abuse forum?

where's the alcohol/substance abuse forum? where's the alcohol/substance abuse forum? where's the alcohol/substance abuse forum?I ment well with my comment, and request, and I guess I must assume you did too, BPtoo. This medium is new to me and difficult (misunderstandings seem at least as likely as not). This particular subject and the approaches to its treatment are as well with at least one fierce controversy involved. I'm a bit taken aback by your response that doesn't seem to answer my request but instead imply something else. Perhaps I'll come to understand better. My sincere apologies if I've offended, a phrase I have a nasty feeling I'm going to get to use far to often on this forum if I manage to mesh here for long at all. -dsl

Downsolong, I'm sure that bptoo was making a sincere suggestion about where to post topics dealing with alcohol/substance abuse. It was not a personal comment...the truth of the matter is, addictions do affect the personality of the addict.

Sky, if you are talking about general diet and exercise in order to lose weight, that would fit well in either the Health Support or Recipes and Healthy Living sections. Since this thread started with talking about addictions, I'm not sure if you might mean discussing food addiction. That would probably be most suited to the Eating Disorder section.

While it is true that addictions affect the personality of the person who is addicted, this is NOT a personality disorder. Personality disorders are (in theory, anyway) lifetime patterns of specific sets of personality traits that tend to be fairly enduring. Narcisstic, Borderline, Antisocial, etc. Now whether or not all the personality disorders are really disorders of personality is up for debate as well. But my point is that personality disorders are not just when your personality is affected by some external factor (such as alchohol and drug use)

I'll put in a vote for a new forum too for substance abuse. I think that would be a great way for people to be able to encourage each other to gain and maintain sobriety.

It would be a wee tricky to leave out the spiritual aspects though, since so many people use AA, and their own concept of their higher power to achieve sobriety. So, that detail would have to be handled with by DocJohn and the moderators. That could get tricky here where we try to refrain from religious discussions.

downsolong,

Please accept my apology if I came across as not taking your request seriously. That certainly was not my intent. I really thought that my suggestion might give you a place to discuss your feelings until other arrangements could be made (which they have).

That being said, you can rest assured that I am not someone, now or ever, that goes out of their way to hurt anyone or make them uncomfortable. This was simply a misunderstanding.

I hope you have a pleasant evening.

Greg

bptoo- Sokay, I'm probably just being overly sensitive and defensive. This is quite a loaded topic for me. When that is added to some other issues so far unmentioned and perhaps unmentionable here, I'm a bit tender and hot headed I'm afraid. I hope to post on the new forum but still am unsure and afraid to. where's the alcohol/substance abuse forum? where's the alcohol/substance abuse forum?

dsl,

No worries. It's a tough topic for a lot of us. I find it hard to talk about a lot, but I always feel better after I do. When you feel up to posting there, I'm sure that you'll find a lot of people with things in common. Just take your time and do it when your ready. And again, I'm sorry if I was insensitive to your needs. I always try to be, but sometimes I just drop the ball.

I hope your day is a good one.
