What if we changed the name from 'mentally ill' to 'mentally healing'?

Well within the course of the illness, one is not always in the healing phase.

Also, it is an illness. Healing is phase that occurs during recovery.

See my reply to the "definition" post in this forum for more opinions. What if...

What if we just didn't identify with what we didn't think fit us?

My inclination is that every single person who breathes suffers from varying degrees of emotional challenge. Living is not easy,,it takes work and struggle and sometimes those struggles are victims of poor timing. Many times we are not prepared for the challenges put before us.

Definitions are so "boxing"..so constrained,,so full of judgement. If I was to describe my periods of emotional and mental distress as anything in particular I would in some way be limiting the process.

Like a seed growing under pavement,,,the sun is up there,,it knows it. It can shrivel and die or it can find that one small crack in the unmoveable and break free.

I think that is what we do...

I think if we're actively involved in bettering ourselves then we are healing. Healing does not always mean feeling good or an easy road...or even steady progress. I think I'll vote on the mental healing.

thank you tainted goth.. it is of course a personal choice how one chooses to view thier own personal situation... in my case, i was not born ill, i do not choose to be ill, and i may heal if i choose... i am fortunate in that... for others, it is not quite as clear... of course i wish us all a quick recovery and it may in fact be easier for some than others..

for me, i have now been in a relationship with my depression nearly 30 years.. it is quite a bit more tolerable now and the types of things which depress me are things that i would consider to be 'real life' conditions.. it is normal to be sad about such things as death, poverty, hunger and suffering.. i do not view such feelings as 'illness', tho i recognize that some may...

i wish you a happy and quick recovery...
