OOPS!! And my husband is going to kill me if/when he finds out.

I was on a 3 hour drive to another city where I'm taking some weekend test prep classes. I was in the middle-o-freaking-nowhere but apparently the speed limit was 45. Ok, fine. I missed the signs. I was going....70.

So, I get the first ticket, stop for gas, hit the road again...and maybe 10 or 15 miles down the road, a cop going the other direction nabs me again.

TWO speeding tickets in less than 20 minutes!! TWO speeding tickets in less than 20 minutes!! TWO speeding tickets in less than 20 minutes!! TWO speeding tickets in less than 20 minutes!! TWO speeding tickets in less than 20 minutes!!

I am such an idiot!!!

On one hand, I'm sooo not used to the speed limits here. Where I grew up, it was 75 mph in any remote areas / not in the city. 65 mph in the city highways. Here - NOTHING over 55 mph. It's a pain in the butt.

But then I'm the idiot who didn't just stick it in cruise control for a few miles after I got the first one....stupid stupid stupid!!

Grr...

Then, on the way back today - I was scared of another ticket, so I stuck my car in cruise at about 59 mph (speed limit 55). Had drivers riding my *** the whole way home...soo annoying. They don't mind staying 3 inches away from my bumper - but they are afraid to pass me when you can't see a car coming for miles and miles and miles?? Go figure...

((((hugs)))) Sorry you are learning this lesson the hard way. TWO speeding tickets in less than 20 minutes!! It's never easy to be wrong. The key is to learn from it, and hopefully it will save your life in the future (or others.)

Do you have the option of going to an educational class instead of getting points? The cost is the same as the ticket here in FL, I think, but you don't have court costs added.

Yes, it's ultra frustrating for other drivers to want you to speed and think tailgating is the solution. TWO speeding tickets in less than 20 minutes!! I'm glad you got home safely though! TC

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, Raz. You need the bumper sticker that says, "I Brake for Tailgaters".

Tickets can be frustrating. I got one in 2000 for driving 35 mph. Of course, it was in a 25 mph construction zone. The work in the zone had been finished for a couple days, and there were no workers. But the sign was still there, and I got the ticket. I had to drive past that area for my business several times that day, and lots of people were getting tickets. It was an unusual speed trap.

get a radar detector. no more speeding ticket problems unless you let them sneak up behind you or your radar detector fails you cuz they advertise that it can pick up laser but it really doesnt (cobra).

I feel your pain. A couple of years ago that happened to me. I got a ticket for following to close to a chicken truck (imo i wasn't to close) and then as I was going down another street I didn't see a speed limit sign and was going 40 in a 25. $350 later I got them taken care of. The second ticket I don't think I would have gotten except my mouth got in the way of my brain LOL.

Ouch - 2 speeding tickets in one day really sucks. And being tailgated really unnerves me - glad that you made it home ok.

Razzle,

Husbands are supposed to be able to handle these kind of things. They are supposed to just smile sweetly and say something like, "Sweetheart, I see you were in a hurry the other day."

Razzle, when you have an extra-long ride like you had -- it is easier for those kind of things to happen.

Court, The speed limit signs say MAXIMUM 50 not minimum 50. so your not supposed to go over but you can go under the speed limit. altho your not supposed to go WAAAAAAAAAAAAY under the speed limit either unless weather conditions merit going WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY under lol.

here you get 3 points for speeding i know this only to well got caught doing, 12mph over the limit and caught by a mobile camera, so not only did i get a fine and three penatly points, but at the time i was a resonably new driver so the limit at the time was 6 pts and you loose your licence its 12 if you been driving for a while
well my points come of this year, four year later and since then have been extra carefull to try to keep to speed limits, its just not worth it

Oh yeah, I have to tell him....because we were waiting for one of my old tickets to drop off my record so we could get better car insurance rates. I almost had a spotless record (tickets stay on for 3 years). But nope! Two more!

The thing is - he speeds WAY more often than I do....I just get caught more. Sucks.

And I was not driving unsafely - it was seriously the middle of nowhere and it was a straight road, nothing for me to hit. The speed limit was way too low. Oh well....I don't think I'll win that fight.

I am going to attempt to fight the tickets - at least see if I can get it reduced to just one hit on my record and not two. Maybe say that my cruise control wasn't working correctly and I thought I had it stuck at 55!! (yeah, right...I don't think they'll buy that)

Back in January I got a speeding ticket for doing 53 in a 40.
I haven't had a ticket in over 20 years so it was kind of a novelty with me. I went to a court official and had to pay $147.00 and was put on probation for 1 year. If I get another ticket in a year both get put on my driving record.
If I'm good for the year the ticket gets purged and no record is made of it.

Do you have this kind of program in your state?

Razz, when it rains it pours. At least, that's what a salt container told me.

Two tickets in 20 minutes. Damn! I too live where the speed limit is 70. You have my sympathies.
