I came across a piece of software that integrates with our forums that is a photo library manager... lets you upload and display photos to share with one another. Just wondering if people would find this a handy feature to have? Let me know by replying to this threads, thanks!

I think it'd be quite a good idea. We were speaking about this in chat the other day because you always put pictures to names but then you find out it's nothing like what the person looks like, if that makes any sense.

I'd be interested in knowing if there are options for how to share....as in:

1) total public
2) psychcentral registered users only
3) only these specific people I have listed
4) only people in my psychcentral address book

Also, would each user have a "file cabinet" where we'd place pics? And at that level we grant access? Or is access granted at the picture level?

Or is this whole thing done simply like another forum? I just post a pic, and it's out there?

This is a neat idea but the ptsd in me causes great concerns:

there would need to be a "holding" tank for uploaded photos until someone (MODERATORS?????) reviewed content. With some of the um members that just show up to harass us, well... you know what we might have on board to view!

Also, would there be a limit to the number of photos per member per... week or something? Some ppl might not be able to discern which ones to post and go overboard and I, for one, would not be able to view any. if there are too many... kinda like the yearly family slide show ho hum...

And, would you have some guidance as to WHOSE pics are allowed (like, not someone else's or of someone else whose rights you might be infringing without a signed release???

I was thinking, and just wanted to add my two cents, that we could have a forum that's just for sharing pics and has it's set of established rules and it's own moderators and whatever. That might ease some of the concerns that have been expressed here?

Sky has some valid points. We should probably check content to make sure that we don't have any innappropriate viewing material. It happens...

Do we want to limit per week how many pics a poster can post so that we don't "overload" the server? jpgs take the least space I think, but some pics can eat a lot of drive space.

I don't think you should have the right to post a pic of another member without their permission, but how do you prove that you have that? It could get complicated.

All in all I love the idea of pics as long as we don't have a lot of rules and regulations tied to it. I hope it'll be fun. Let those who want to participate do so, and those who don't...don't.

But keep in mind that once all of you see a pic of my ugly mug, you may never want to see another picture again as long as you live...

I would like to have this feature added to the site. As long as it was for registered members only. Maybe if it was possible...there could be a feature that did not let you post pictures until someone was out of visitor status. This way people might be less likely to just sign up to the site to post degrading features.
Just a thought.

yes, something like that, an easy "rule" or regulation like that might work... (Yes Morn, I do overthink things, but I warned you... it's the PTSD that has me hyper-vigilant!)

Don't get the idea that I'm against photos! I used to be a professional photographer too... and love a good shot!... and some can make you laugh... yeah, it's sound great.
