We don't really have a neuroscience or learning disorders section so I put it here..

Over the past few months I have been reading much more. Often I will read something incorrectly and not notice.

For instance:

"The true story of a Psychologist, his wife and a brutal murder"

When I first read that (its the cover page btw)...I read it it as The true story of a Psychologist, his wife, a brutal murderer.

I'm not sure why I do this. I do it ALOT when typing. I can spell words if I stop and think about it, but when I passively let things flow it gets muddled up.

I'm thinking it might be some mild type of dyslexia but I'm not sure. It does happen with numbers sometimes.

Sometimes it has to do with jumping to conclusions. For instance I've had at least two occasions where I looked at a summary of patient visits, the patient had visited the ER exactly one day prior.....except a year ago. I invariably read this as 2008 instead of 2007. The second time I intentionally checked for the year and it still happened.

Does this happen to you?

Yep.....I have done the same thing myself. I'm not dyslexic so I know it's not that kind of problem. I chalk it up to having so much to do and so little time to do it in and my mind is rushed.

It's amazing how the brain works isn't it?

Stress will cause this: too much on your plate, or too much input (overwhelming your senses.) Try some relaxation before reading, and play classical music while you read and it should help! Misinterpretation, Does this happen to you?

That you stop and read it again says some checker is catching it? I just note the circumstances around when it happens and how often it happens, to see if there's an unusual pattern, as in "why now?" Usually I find there's some stress somewhere like Sky says.
