Hi there guys! I am almost done with my proposal, which is my first three chapters of my dissertation. After I get that done, and get done with this next class (that I am presently in), I will be All But Dissertation...and I will have only two chapters left of my dissertation until I am officially Ph.D.

Here's the note I got from my dissertation chair (my school "boss" for my dissertation, so to speak)...

Clyde,

Your proposal is near to the final draft, and I am looking forward to our brainstorming session this coming Tuesday at 8:30pm EST. If you can have access to your proposal, we will walk through some minor issues before submitting to the committee.

One is spacing between sections, and this may relate to the whole pagination thing! The document should be double spaced throughout, and each Chapter should begin on a new page with no empty blank pages.

The content looks good for committee review and I would like to proceed with this as the next step.

I look forward to our conference on Tuesday. Did you receive a copy of the Zapf reprint?

LOL, Sky, dont ask about the spacing/page numbering. It was fine, until I tried to fix the page numbering correct, then it went haywire

if we'd mucked up the pagination, we would have had to retype the entire thing , on a manual typewriter

what program are you trying to format it in? word? are you saving the chapters as separate documents or saving it as one big document?

i had immense trouble with using word for my masters thesis. endless nightmares with what appeared on the screen being okay and what came out of the printer or ended up in the PDF was full of all kinds of errors. aaargh.

i'm trying to use LaTeX but that has all kinds of problems of its own. my biggest at the moment is that it won't let me install any usepackages and i need one to let me do APA referencing and another to do MinionPro font style. Have you picked a font yet? (Important issues)... There are lotsa templates available online with front matter etc...

Actually, when my dissertations were typed something "new" was out, lift off print-type ribbon. Corrections were much easier.

BUT... on my final one, the paid printer misspelled the title ON THE BINDING and I had to have it redone in a crunch. Don't wait until the last moment to bind that work up, man!

I also just got a new computer, and I am trying to figure it out, as we speak, its a bit odd... (considering my last one was 10 years old!)
