My brother hasn't been the same since our mom died in August. He is so psychotic and just basically not well at all. He has so much pent up rage inside of him about a lot of things. I think he's gonna kill his ex-wife. I should 302 him, but I don't want him to hate me. My dad is against me doing this but it's the only way he can get any help at all. I'm so torn and I don't know what to do.

My t and the people in group therapy say I should commit him, but there's so much that I'm struggling with around this issue. So I guess I'm just wondering what you guys think I should do.

If someone who wasn't you asked you this question, what would you tell them to do?

Lexicon,

If he's showing psychotic behaviors and is threatening the life of others, I would call the police and let them handle it. Basically, yes, you'd still be leading the path to hospitalization, but you wouldn't actually be making that decision...the police would.

When my brother was younger he was out of control and had threatened someone's life...seriously. I was actually worried that he would do it. I called his t and he actually made the call. Somehow that helps me today...to know that I just passed along the info but someone else (knowledgable) made that decision.

I wish you good luck and am sending you my thoughts.

be safe,

kimmydawn

Lexi, in the USA any professional (such as your T) MUST report anyone who is a threat to another or themself. Why not ask your T to call the inquiry in?

Lex,

Well if you do decide to do it, what do you think he will learn? Maybe that therapy really does help relax people?Maybe it will be the best thing that ever happened to him.

So sorry for your loss (both of you).

Take Care.
