I'm really nervous about my interview tonight to be a volunteer on a crisis line at the major psych hospital here.

The interview itself makes me nervous because I'm only used to job interviews, and I don't know really what to expect on this one.

I do know that they'll want to talk about my own mental health / addictions history and current stability, which I'm mostly ok with - but it always feels weird talking about it with a stranger.

Split, I think you will be a great hotline volunteer. Just be honest and I am sure they will think you are great too! Good luck.

(((((((((Split)))))))) I totally agree with Depressme. She is right on the dot. I think you would be a great assest to the hotline with helping people. You've been through so much yourself and gotten help. And i admire you for wanting to go out and share and help others.

Your going to do great at your interview. Relax and be yourself. I'm sure they'll welcome you and make you feel comfortable.

Good Luck.

First of all congrats on getting the interview (((((splitimage)))))
You gave me some great advice before I went to my interview... (quote)Try and get there a bit early and do some deep breathing exercises. That always helps calm me down and focus for the interview.

I'm sure you'll be great at the job and it seems like something you really want to do... so let that shine through! If you're nervous when they're asking you questions... just take a breath, maybe a sip of water and just do the best you can. I'm sure you'll be great. Tell yourself you can do it.

Good luck let us know how you get on?

Thanks everybody - the interview went very well. Basically we talked about why I was interested, and what I hoped to get out of it, then she gave me a bunch of scenarios, and I had to say how I'd respond to them.

She basically told me that I'd interviewed really well, and that she likes that I have relevant experience, from another site that I volunteer on. She has to check my references, but implied pretty strongly that I'll be accepted. I'd say I'm 95% sure that I will be.

She did ask about my treatment at the hospital and how long I'd been "out" You basically have a full year from being inpatient before they'll let you volunteer. Because I'm still seing a psychiatrist at the hospital she wants to talk to her too, the unstated reason being to make sure I'm stable enough to handle it.

So I shoul hear something Friday or Monday.
