Yes, it's really very exciting...for members and for the team.

The effeciency being what I'm most excited about. Members have wonderful tools to fine tune their experience, but mods/admins also have wonderful tools to be able to edit and help members with edits, etc., with less impact as compared to current capabilities, but also much better tools when it comes to spamming and the like.

It's really an exciting thing which will offer us all alot. That said, it WILL be different and we're all here to help each other, answer questions, or whatever is needed to walk right through this. PLEASE READ: FORUMS MOVING!

Thanks,

KD

Is there going to be mods that can somehow help us adjust? I'm sure I'm not the only member who has gotten used to the way it is now and sudden changes, even if for the better, can feel like it's "disrupting" a safe place PLEASE READ: FORUMS MOVING!

Yes, all of the old threads are coming with us!! PLEASE READ: FORUMS MOVING!

This includes all of your PMs. You will now have the ability to download all of your PMs too, which helps if you want a history to save or what-not.

Yes, we will all be here helping people learn about the new software and helping people adjust. It will be quite the anxious experience, I know... but we'll do what we can to help ease the transition and answer people's questions after the move.

Will we all have to rejoin or will we all be moved automatically too?

Yes, you will be moved automatically.

That's why you need to know your password or have a valid email address in your profile page, because you will need to relogin on the new forums (many people just keep their account logged in all the time here and so forget their password).

Nope pegasus.....everything that is here will be on the new forums as it stands. No re-registering or anything like that. Barring any complications it should be a smooth move in that respect. PLEASE READ: FORUMS MOVING!

Edited to say Woops...I misunderstood the question...Sorry peg PLEASE READ: FORUMS MOVING!

I would like to ask everyone during this transition to be as patient as possible with all the changes. We (the team) will be here fielding your questions and problems as best we can. At times, it may take us a bit to get back to folks to answer and help....but please know that we will all do the best we can to make this as smooth a transition as possible.

I, too am very excited about this move. We are in for a treat and as with any changes in our world, it will take a bit of time to settle in and become familiar. But, not to worry....you will all be up and running quickly and I do believe loving the new forums!

Actually Doc, I have a question if I may...

I know you said any posts done on that day (the Saturday) won't be transferred over... but I'm wondering about PMs sent/received on that date? Will they be transferred?

Is there any way to make a slight improvement to chat, though? For those of us who lead chats and would like to copy certain info into the chat, it's very tedious to bring up the URL box and try to do it that way. The space is very limited. PLEASE READ: FORUMS MOVING!

I know this is reaching a lot, but it would also be nice to have sound in chat, too.

Just a reminder that we won't be changing the chat software when we do the forums changeover. We'll have the same chat setup.

I myself wish it were easier to copy and paste in chat, Sept.

I think, hopefully, we might change that after a bit? I'm not sure, so I'll let John address if that's even an option at this point.

Thanks, guys.

FYI FYI FYI FYI FYI

To all members:

Anyone who has their PC account set up with their password remembered and you don't remember what it is.....please.....pm any admin and we can help you with that problem. We can reset your password to something generic so you can log in and then, as soon as you have logged in with the generic password, you must immediately change your password to whatever it is you want it to be.

In doing this.....when it comes time for the changeover, everyone can have their account available to them and there will be less frustration and anxiety for YOU...our wonderful members PLEASE READ: FORUMS MOVING! We want to make this switch as easy as possible for everyone.

So, if you do not remember what your logon password is, let's get that fixed now for you before the change for smooth sailing!

Ahhh. Right, vBulletin.

This is a script that I am not quite sure about. Don't get me wrong - I LIKE vBulletin, but I LOVE what we are using right now. OK, so stuff will be more up to date.

I have a lot of experience with vBulletin - I know how to use it well. A bit too modern in my opinion - I would rather use phpBB or Simple Machines Forum.

I don't know. Maybe it's just the varied usage options, all 3 of the ones I have mentioned are brilliant scripts, but yes. I am excited for a new look.

GO PC! GO PC! GO PC!

One thing, maybe an ETA on the completion ?

It will be done on Aug. 30. If all goes well, it could be done in the morning. If we run into some issues, it might be more in the afternoon.

Remember, these forums will still be online and you can post to them while we're building the new forums.

Our experience has been with vbulletin and as a commercially support product with tens of thousands of implementations, we're comfortable in choosing it moving forward. It's a solid platform and patched/updated continuously.

Yes, there's a spellcheck in the new forums!
