that my dad (who I am estranged from) had heart by-pass surgery 2 weeks ago.
not sure what i think about that.

Is he recovering well?
I can imagine that it would be hard to know what to feel. I wouldn't know whether or not to care, or to be worried, or to not be very bothered because I'm estranged from them.
