caused me to chip my tooth. I had to leave work early today and get into the dentist - the tooth caused such pain to my tongue from being so sharp.

I can't believe I was chewing soft bubble gum and this happened. The edge was so sharp it almost ripped the tech's glove when she felt it - and my tongue is so swollen and painful..........

I can't chew on the other side because I need a root canal and now this tooth may have been weakened because of the chip and could break. This is what I get for not having insurance.

SOFT bubble gum, pegasus! lol. I'll recover, it just surprised me. Either I'm really unlucky or my poor teeth need help pronto.

Oh how I can feel for you......I have a whole mouth full of broken & chipped teeth. It started when my teeth were being formed. Who would have thought that being sick, having high temperatures, & lots of Antibiotics would end up developing teeth with enamel that wasn't good. Not only that, but I think also inherited bad teeth from my Dad.......thanks alot.....why do we only inherit the bad stuff????

Seriously however, all the teeth that had been filled have ended up breaking off. Of course, I grinded my teeth all my life also & back in the time I was growing up, there wasn't any help for it (or if there was, my parents couldn't afford to do anything).

So now, I have no insurance (medicare doesn't pay for dental). I have no money to pay to have all my teeth taken out & dentures. I refuse to smile as that toothless look just isn't something I want to look like. So the broken teeth just stay there & the sharp edges wear away after awhile (but it does hurt just like you describe before it wears down).

I keep praying that a huge tooth ache or abcess doesn't settle in before I have money to do something about it. You would think that medicare would provide money for something like this as it's unhealthy to have teeth in this condition.. I am surprised there isn't infection throughout my mouth.

As I said, I can definitely relate to your pain,
Debbie

It's miserable, isn't it Debbie? I hope to have insurance through my job by next month, later on, and made two appts. for November as I need a root canal very badly. I can't chew on the right side, and this would be my 3rd one I've had. Right now they want over half down and I can't afford to just put down over $300.

Thank goodness, there is no more pain, except for my tongue. I hope something comes through for you.....no one should be denied or not be able to afford, insurance.

Mary,

What is really surprising me is that there is very seldom any pain....every once in awhile, if I eat something very cold (my favorite ice cream) or bite on something hard where the tooth has broken off, it will hurt & then I put that stuff on it to numb the pain....within a couple of minutes, it's fine again. Don't know how much longer I can go on like that without it becoming full time hurts, but it seems that many people have broken off teeth & don't do anything about it. For me, it's just embarrassing so I don't smile or open my mouth any more than I have to just to eat or talk.

When I get a break from getting the house done & the horses here, I will go to the university of Kentucky's dental school & see what they can do for me without any money.....they are supposed to have something for people without insurance & without money as I don't even have anything left over each month from bills & usually am negative.

I wish you the best getting the insurance & needed dental work

Debbie
