And it's just started sinking in.

I'm awash in so many emotions I can't begin to sort them out.

If anyone else has found him- or herself in this situation recently, maybe we can start a support group.

In the meantime, I am trying to soldier on, when what I want to do is pull the covers over my head and not have to think.

Hugs are welcome and appreciated, as are ideas for next steps.

Candy

I'm so sorry - that really sucks. It happened to me about a year and a half ago. Give youself a couple of days to let it sink in. Are you eligible for employment insurance?

You are more than deserving of a pity party right now. Take a few days to tend to your wounds.....time to think and feel better. Now you have the time to look for other work, brush up on any skills you may need to brush up on, and all in all...just "be" for awhile.

Wishing you well hon.

Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. You cannot change the past, however you can work towards the future.
Hang in there and keep on look'n for a new job.

I'm just about to be in the same boat. My employers are making it very clear that they don't want me there. I've been miserable there for a long time because of how they are treating me. I'm actively looking for other jobs, and it's frustrating because apparently I can get as many jobs as I want that are essentially the same as the one I have now (hopefully with a bit more respect), but that really isn't what I want to keep doing, exactly, and the ones that I do want are not answering my inquiries.

I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe we need a support group. Take some time for yourself and do what you want to do, and think about what you really want to do as far as jobs. I hope you find one that is what you really want, and that appreciates all that you have to offer.

dear candybear,

i'm so sorry your job went poof. that is a scary feeling. i heard there is a book out called "what color is your parachute" that helps a person explore their personal likes and things to help find jobs you may really want to do. it should be in your local library (free is great!). this book is updated yearly to keep it current. i'm sure many people on here will be willing to be your guests at a pity-party and/or a brainstorming session - according to your needs! i wish this had not happened and hope you find something better than what you just had. all the best,

leslie and the pixies

Oh gosh, how awful and scary. I'm so sorry. That happened to me several years ago. I remember having so many different feelings...fear about what to do next, a sense of loss for that part of my self-identity, worries about the folks I'd been working with (a health care setting) and would now be leaving, loss of daily contact with the friends I'd made, doubts, sadness, weariness, depression, anger, a teeny bit of relief, occasional and fleeting, intriguing glimpses of hopes and dreams, etc. And they all seemed to swirl around randomly "lighting on me" for a moment or longer.

It's okay to hide under the covers for a bit. It can be healing and renewing, and that's important right now.

I know this is a platitude, but I hope that this leads to something greater for you; that there is some hidden blessing in it, perhaps.

Take care,

gg

Take time to process and take time to something nice for yourself even if its just taking a nice long bath with some bubbles.

Big hugs and thank-you's to all who have replied so compassionately....I am wiped out (but up at 1:40 a.m. because my neighbor is a loud jerk) and I don't have the energy to respond individually -- I apologize.

GG's description, however, is perfect -- I'm going through all of that. Luckily, my health insurance runs through the end of the year, and I got T's first appointment Monday morning, which should help.

Believe it or not, I really do see some positives in the whole situation. It's just that cash flow outweighs all of them. :-\ I did file for unemployment and we'll see how much I get out of that. In my state, it varies with how much you made an hour.

Oh well. At least now I have some time to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. In the meantime, I'm going to go do Xanax and Tylenol (for the headache the loud jerk is causing) and try to sleep. Thanks again for all your kindnesses.

Love, Candy
