I'm mad as hell!

As some of you know from chat yesterday I had an interview for a job which I thought I'd stuffed it up.

Well, apparently, I got very high scores on all of my answers and they said they could tell I'd researched well. So I feel better that I did well with the answers now but the reason I didn't get the job was because they already have people doing the job already. ie. bank workers!

So WTF! Why even bother interviewing me if the job was already gone! I guess I was just there to make up the numbers! That's not fair, not fair at all!

I am sorry they done that, it doesn't make sense to interview for a job that is already taken, I would be extremely mad.

Thanks gimmeice.

By law if there are not enough internal applicants they have to advertise it. I understand why they do that but it sucks!

Well, it's actually a good thing you weren't hired. Would you really want to work for a company like that? How unprofessional...

Thank you lost-soul I am trying to look on this that maybe it just wasn't meant to be with this particular job but I have been searching for work for a long time now. I'm trying to stay positive.

Thanks Simcha

This job was with the NHS health service, (UK) government run, and the county council do the same thing.

I have calmed down a bit about the whole thing now. I guess it was good of them to be that honest with me. At least I didn't fail because of something I had done, I basically had no chance whatsoever. I did thank her several times for telling me why I didn't get the job. Nevermind ay.

I totally agree with you. Interviewing to meet the numbers is a waste of time. Focus on how well you did. Build your confidence. And you never know when you might get a call back. Sincerely...an unemployed professional

Thank you Agape4us I was worried that I had said the wrong thing for one of the questions but according to the interviewer I didn't put a foot wrong. She said I obviously knew my stuff and did a lot better than many others that they had interviewed. They spent two days interviewing people and then picked the people that are already working for them.

Trying to move forward...

Pegasus, I'm sorry you had to go thru this, though it sounds like you are dealing with it well.
I've been in the same position. It's cynical of me to say this , but in many cases it's "who knows whom," and even nepotism that gets jobs. The fact that they already had someone picked out for the position smacks of this, in my experience and opinion. I don't care what reason they gave for conducting interviews, it sucks....if they already had someone for the job. Sounds like you did very well, and maybe they'll remember you...if you're inclined to consider them in the future.

Pegasus,

I hate that it was all a ruse. That's a dirty rotten trick dressed up to hide the oyster on the string. Shame on them.

The only good I see here is you were able to practice the before, during and after interview stuff. I think you get high marks on that. But you're the only one who can dole those grades out! So, what'll be? Smiley face with a bird finger up? Or just plain bird finger up?

notz (smiling for you and all birdy fingers up!)

Thanks Patty, yeah you are right, I have seen it happen when I was working in education. I will put it down to an interesting experience and I have learnt a few things over the last couple of days.

I'm job hunting over here in the US myself. I worked for a government organization for a few years, and it was the most dysfunctional place I ever worked. I'll not sacrifice my morals again for such a thing.

Surely your services are needed elsewhere!

Peg, sadly, that is all too common, both IRL and online. I recently spent 45 minutes filling out a very detailed app on the Internet only to get to the end of it and have a screen pop up that said, "sorry, this position has been filled."

Whoever replied that it often comes down to who knows who also has a point. I lost one job because the person I would have been working for had worked with and actively disliked the person who recommended me.

People are so damn petty. Hope things pick up for you soon.

Thanks Simcha, Candybear, and EJ,

It is soul destroying the amount of applications I have made, I have had a couple of interviews now. The first one they said I was over-qualified and this one they already had in mind who they wanted! The thing is with these interviews is it entails so much work, you won't believe the amount of forms I have had to fill in. I do wonder what they do with all that information.

Anyhow, I shall keep applying for anything that looks remotely suitable and I guess I'll go with a pinch of scepticism now.
