Avoid the urgency

Most things that end up being urgent didn't start out that way. Most urgent matters, had they been addressed when they first came up, would not have to be rushed. Putting off a difficult task until later only makes it more difficult. To truly make your life easier, go ahead and take care of the hard stuff as early as you can.

When you put off something that needs to be done, you don't get rid of it. You merely make it more burdensome than it otherwise would have been.

Each time you procrastinate you deny yourself the opportunity to get the work done calmly and carefully, at a comfortable pace. Instead, you push the work to a time and place where it must be hurried.

That ends up creating needness anxiety and reducing your effectiveness. The far better choice is to go ahead and get it done before the need for urgency sets in.

What could you take care of today that would prevent you from having to deal with an urgent matter later? Go ahead, get it done, and bring more peace and positive purpose to your life.

That's a great sentiment, Sept... it's just the motivation to do things immediately is hard to find... WOW! This one hits hubby right on the head!

I know it is, Hun. I'm as guilty as the next person, but from now on, I'm going to try to keep the feelings in mind that I get when things get URGENT! They're not good feelings! WOW! This one hits hubby right on the head!

When I find myself putting things off, is when I'm getting ready for people coming over; like holidays. I keep thinking "Oh, the heck with it! I've still got time." But then suddenly the time is gone and I wind up botching things up. Then I wind up feeling even worse than just stressed to get things done in time because I know I could have done a better job at whatever and things don't come out the way I wanted them.

If I can remember that when there's "still plenty of time," then maybe I can get started sooner and avoid all the crap. Jeez! Who knows! I might even feel satisfied and proud of myself!

Think about it. WOW! This one hits hubby right on the head!

Wow, How guilty am I? I agree with silver. When I'm depressed it's so very hard to find the will to do anything other than exist. But I'm definately gonna have to try to work on this. Thanks again for another wonderful post.

This reminds me of 2 years ago, I was depressed and procrastinating and left my income tax return to fill out to the very last day shortly before the deadline time. I hadn't even organized my 'stuff' all in one pile and couldn't find some of the things I needed, including my calculator. Got half way through it, in a panic, and realized I needed a specific form from the government that I didn't have. WOW! This one hits hubby right on the head! Was not a pleasant experience at all. Last year I got it done in plenty of time. Hmmmmmmmmm, I haven't organized things this year yet, guess I better get cracking soon. I sure don't want a repeat of doing it in the 11th hour again. WOW! This one hits hubby right on the head!

I never thought about it like that before. It's very true. I needlessly put my self through anxiety when I put things off to the last minute. WHY? Why do I do that?
Thanks. I think I will print this and stick it on my computer for inspiration.
Have a wonderful day!!!!!! WOW! This one hits hubby right on the head!
