Someone threw me a bone about Neurofeedback/brain Optimization saying that it might be a good option for me...does anyone have any experience with this?

I have:
Anxiety Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder
Eating Disorder
PTSD
Suicide Attempt

I currently am seeing a psychiatrist and a great therapist and have been in a couple different in-patient and out-patient facilities. I have made great strides, but still feel trapped in my own body and mind. My therapist thinks this is a good option for me. I am currently taking Geodon, Effexor and Lamictal and I have no intention on stopping these because they do help a little bit.

I used neuro-feedback years ago. It is a good tool, teaches you some additional self awareness, control techniques. I would recommend it to anyone as just that; another tool to add to your bag that will come in handy sometimes... so I guess that means, it works.... just my opinion. Good Luck with this

The real deal is a type of biofeedback that has been studied since the 1930's and is used a lot to help with ADHD.

Neurofeedback - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There's a lot of attention about now with sites like, "Lumosity.com" and others claiming it helps to keep your brain "sharp" and helps memory, etc.

I would avoid biofeedback if delivered by Scientologists, but in a medical venue, I would be open to it.

Neurofeedback is a powerful way to change the habitual patterns of your brain. I think it would work better to alleviate the symptoms of anxiety and PTSD than depression. Though Neurofeedback won't force your brain to work in a particular way by changing its chemistry, it will certainly set you up to get the most out of your meds and therapy, because it will bring your brain functions closer to the average, so the meds and therapy won't have to work as hard to be effective.

That said, neurofeedback could also eliminate any need for meds and permanently train your brain to function more efficiently, but I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. Like NWgirl2013 said, it's a tool. It's a powerful tool, but just one way to work with the unfathomable complexity of the human brain.

i had excellent results using acupuncture and a type of neuro-therapy called Holosync, which has been around since the mid 80's, developed primarily for adolescents with ADD or ADHD.

an interesting person named Bill Harris got hold of the technology and turned it into a very successful therapy, which, when combined with meditation and cognitive rehabilitation is very successful at behavioral and emotional changes and is even said to cause repair to the brains neuro-connections.

you can read more about this at his web site, CenterPointe.com. i caution you not to be too put off by his strong sales pitch, and not to get caught up in his peripheral products. but i used the Holosync program and am almost symptom free. no doctor or therapist can tell you that.

i will let you know that it is not fast, it took me 7 yrs, and it is not cheap (depending on your means), and YOU must do much of the work, becoming aware of your own innermost thoughts and beliefs and changing the ones that are not serving you. but in the end,,, you get your life back, and you learn skills that will serve you all life long~

Best Wishes
Gus
