So I've been seeing a therapist who is also certified in a type of art therapy. It helps calm me down and focus more. This was my first time she asked me to draw what my anxiety feels like. I felt very on the spot and a little akward but i did it anyways. So i decided to open a thread for everyone.
Here's a list of some ideas but go for what you feel:
Anxiety, depression and sadness, anger and rage, social and relationship issues, avoidance, etc etc etc.
What does it look like?

I dont have the picture i drew there (it short it was a picture of a angry mule seperate from a group of horses), but i have another picture i drew that i will post. Its a picture of a guitar (i love rock) and various lyrics of songs i like that i can associate with..

Art Therapy
I use Tinypic website.

I actually like art therapy. It helps me get in touch with feelings that are hard to say or "feel" now. Half the time, my art is not really art, but more symbolic uses of colors.

I was nervous at first too, because my therapist was a "real" artist, but after a few sessions using art, I noticed that I lost sight of her, and focused on my work. We discussed it afterwards and it got pretty deep at times.

Good luck.

Art Therapy

Heres one I drew tonight called "Controlled Anger"

An interpretation of my anger problems... Seems like nothings wrong or unusual until it gets out of hand....I'll probably draw another one where its out of control
Sorry its so large, I probably should of shrunk it down*

I draw a lot of zendoodles to calm the anxiety. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1353827619.916723.jpg. This is one of them. Art makes me feel a lot better but I never thought about drawing what the feelings look like. That's a brilliant idea.

I've hit the Depression wall again. I haven't talked to my T about it yet. I feel like crap. Last night i drew a picture of everything, (this particular picture made me cry) and it is terrible feeling that doesn't come out very often (but when it does it wont let go), nor does anyone really know about.... I showed my one real close friend and she told me the picture was scary but could understand. I've noticed when I draw my feelings I become well, very childish in views of everything. It's Large so youll need to click the link instead http://i45.tinypic.com/257km50.png

I've heard of art therapy, but I don't really get how it works. Is it supposed to help you while you're making the art or is the important thing to look at it later?

Im so sure either. I guess you could say it is a release of emotion the image's definition by you is most important. how "realistic" or having artistic talent is not.

Good job, MikeDelta! Looks like you're getting your feelings out. We often had some kind of art therapy in mental wards I've been in.

I'm really not much of an artist myself, but one thing I like to do is cut out pix from magazines, calenders, etc. and make sort of a "collage," of sorts. Sometimes I'll use pictures that have to do with what is bothering me at the time.
I also like to color geometric designs.

I like art (and play) therapy ... It helps me to discuss deeper issues I usually wouldn't bring up in a regular face to face therapy session ... Something about the distraction helps in a good way ... Reckon they know this?

Thanks for this!

Mike, I'm glad you started this thread on art therapy! I took coursesin combining all the arts in therapy including art as well as other things.
I've started a social group to do with any kind of alternative/holistic/ creative form of psychotherapy, and getting support, sharing resources and having discussions around that. So if any of you want to learn more or share about art therapy experiences feel free to join the group!
