For as long as I have lived (which is about 24 years), I don't think I've ever quite realized the importance of vitamins.

For the past few days I've been on-edge, with a looming pain floating around my head. I feel like the nerves in my brain were contracting, but I still can't decide if this was anxiety related?

In the meantime, I had been researching the benefits certain vitamins & minerals can have on the nervous system, and then yesterday morning came.

I woke up and had to call the paramedics because my face went numb and I flew into a shaking panic attack. After taking the Xanax my doctor prescribed, I eventually managed to calm down and they left. The pain still loomed.

Later that day, I went to the store to buy some things specifically for my nervous system. I bought some bananas, 75% cocoa dark chocolate, fish oil, vitamin B complex (timed release stuff), Centrum multivitamin, chocolate soy milk, whole wheat cereal, and mixed nuts.

After taking an assortment of these, and exercising on the treadmill for a bit, I fell asleep and woke up a few hours later feeling much better. The looming pain seems to have dissipated, at least to a point where I can feel at ease again. No idea whether or not it will return.

Are the vitamins the source of why I feel much better than before??

If your not eating properly then yes vitamins are important. But 3 meals a day should be fine with no additional vitamins needed. Balanced meals with vegetables and fruits. Older people tend to need more iron.

Yes, you have to eat properly, consistently; stuff in a bottle cannot replace that. Also, drinking enough water is important too.

Go to your medical doctor and get a thorough physical, see if you are low on any particular vitamins/minerals; that can make a difference. For example, I now have to take Vitamin D and a B complex pill on my doctor's recommendation and yes, they do help.

The doc said I was low on Vitamin D3, I am guessing that is not the same as D? He also recommended I see a psychiatrist.

I have had an infection in my lower left gums for over a year now (need a root canal on one tooth), I am beginning to wonder if this is having any mental effects?

I think it's just the pill version of D, D1, 2, 3. Not sure what the diff is but it's still D not a separate diff vitamin, just how it's manufactured.

Gum infection will need to be taken care of before you have that root canal.

I liked the B vitamins when I was really fatigued and still in the early phase of my recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction. I take them every once in awhile now and stay away from caffeine, B Vitamins give way more energy and is not as hard on my gut. I agree with IndieVisible to eat a better diet with more fruits and vegetables, I buy frozen fruits and vegetables, they are cheap and easy to prepare. I make smoothies with them, the nuts are a good idea to, try to find balance between protein, vegetables, fruits and grains. I know when I am feeling low I have impulses to grab carbs and stuff my face with them. But this doesn't help long term the way eating a balanced diet does.

If you have space I also recommend growing a garden in your back yard, summer is over, but my garden was overflowing with tomatoes, kale, broccoli, eggplant, potatoes and assorted pepper plants. I ended up sharing a lot of it with acquaintances and family, a friend of mine's mother said they were so good she'd be willing to buy some off of us. If you don't like milk and are into trying more milk alternatives try almond milk, or if you can find it coconut milk. I love almond milk, coconut milk is better because it also has omega 3 fatty acids. Vitamins definitely make you feel better, B Vitamins are good for the nervous system, they are mostly found in meat, eggs and leafy green vegetables.

Went to the dentist today to pull out a problem tooth. I had two cysts protruding from the roots. I think they are the cause for all my troubles, and I do believe they were feeding my anxiety. I am shocked it took me so long to figure this out.

Needing a root canal is not the same as an infection. You probably have not had an infection there that long; it would kill you Yes, that can have all sorts of effects on your body; you need to get that looked at and cared for right away.
