I had never heard of Dark Therapy, nor specifically that the blue spectrum had such an effect on melatonin. Thanks for sharing this.

I have tried this at bedtime and it actually does help. I have started turning off my night light and my husband's fish tank light. I also have purchased a sleep mask on amazon.com that should get here by thursday. I'll let you know how it goes.

Wow, I've been doing a version of this on my own for a while, but didn't know it was called dark therapy. I'd just read a lot about the effects of blue light, and how as we get older, and especially women, our eyes don't register the signals as easily, and being prone to insomnia I figured I'd better get on board.

Something I've found really helpful is a free application I use on my computers called f.lux that tones down and brings back up the blue hues in conjunction with sunrise/sunset, so that if I am doing work on it later in the day, at least I am not staring at the very kind of light that is most likely to keep me awake. It makes a big difference for eye strain.

I agree - I use light and dark (red lights, f.lux) therapy to aid in sleep and mood.
