I'm starting CBT for depression tomorrow and I'm a little skeptical. I've done CBT for anxiety and that seems really logical, but not so much for depression. After reading the first chapter of my workbook, all the automatic thoughts seem self-deprecating, which is not really a major symptom of my depression? I'm mostly tired and unmotivated and just generally feeling sad. I do think therapy might help, but I don't know if CBT is right. Has anyone else had success for CBT with depression? Or any failures with it and alternatives that helped?

CBT methods (which my clinical psychologist taught me) were very important in my recovery from Major Depressive Disorder.
You might find CBT for Beginners, written by J Simmons and R Griffiths (2009) helpful in this context. It was written for mental health professionals but I (as a client of a mental health professional) found its insights into the process of CBT beneficial.
