I have had 9 ECT treatments so far and still do not have improved mood. Was just wondering, for those of you ECT helped, how many treatments it took before you were feeling better. . .

I am surprised not one has answered you. I know there are people who have had it done.

I am actually starting to feel somewhat better (after 9 treatments), but I'm still very curious to hear about others' experiences.

That is great to hear! I wish I could help but I haven't had ECT treatments. Although I have been following your posts and am pleased to hear you feel a bit better!

I've had 22 in total. The last batch I had 11 every other day. I'm glad to hear that it has started to help you. Best of luck!
Sorry I can't say that it really did anything for me. This last batch in August left me feeling worse. I don't see it as an option for myself anymore. Not sure there is anything else.

Good luck!!!

i've read that some people have had temporary improvements after 3-5 sessions and that the improvements last longer after 10+ treatments. sorry i don't have the source.

When I had ECT it didn't take right away. After 12 sessions it took a few weeks before I began to feel the effects. I think it has a cumulative effect...just like psych meds.

I'm sorry, I wasn't completely clear... It can take a couple weeks to feel the FULL effect of ECT. It is used in emergency situations and does have beneficial immediate effects.
Thanks for this!

I had 6 treatments in a two week period. They had no effect on me whatsoever. Although I did eventually "heal" many months later on my own.

I am very pleased to report that, after the 13th treatment, my depression has been completely lifted for the third day now! I have another treatment tomorrow so hopefully this will keep up.

NEWGAL, that is wonderful news that you are being helped by this treatment. I am new here, my twin sister has current severe depression, and am wondering if ect may be a reasonable option for her. I am also looking into genetic testing as she has changed meds several times over the course of the last 3 years. Her current mix does not seem to be helping...
