So I just got out of the hospital and have had 4 ECT treatments. I had a headache and was really sore after the first one but since then it has only been memory problems. The memory issues are getting frustrating and I have anywhere from 4 to 8 more sessions to go. I miss seeing my T.

I am out of work for the next month to finish my treatments and attend the day program at the hospital. I am worried about my job security because in total it will be 2 months that I am out of work.

Anyone else have good experience with ECT? It was pretty much at my last resort.

I am a big proponent of it. It gave me my life back. I wasn't functioning very well before hand.

I have questions; feel free to ignore them.

Prior to your first treatment, did the doctors determine your individual seizure threshold? Did they use an "empirical" method to determine your threshold or did they use a formula (considering your age, electrode placement, gender, etc.)?

Did these first treatments employ unilateral or bilateral electrode placement? Are they planning to start with unilateral and then work up to bilateral?

Did you communicate this to your doctors? What did they tell you?

Wishing you good outcomes.

Yes the Drs know about the memory issues. I am only doing unilateral. They said the memory issues should improve.

I also believe in ECT. I have been taking it every 2 weeks for the past two years. I take medication also and see a therapist but it is the ECT that has taken away the 24/7 suicidal thoughts. I am lucky I have no memory loss and go to work right after the treatment. I take bilateral.
Thanks for this!
