I take it. It's cheap. It will calm you down and get you to sleep. But from my experience there are some things that need to be stressed.

You will very quickly become habituated to it. I mean within days. And then if you're not highly disciplined--and I imagine that a lot of people taking it for psych reasons don't have the energy for high discipline--you'll find yourself taking lots. That's where I'm at right now. Fortunately I don't find it physically addictive, so in my stronger periods I can get off it fairly easily. But this isn't one of those strong periods, and I never know how long the weak periods will last...

I am sick to my stomach, with no appetite. All the time. That's great for weight loss, I suppose, but it seems like my body's way of telling me not to take Phenibut.

It makes me stupid. This morning I couldn't figure out how to text.

The very worst of all is the way it affects my sleep. First of all, it takes a few hours to take effect, so it's easy to ingest too much that way. But it can also keep me sleeping for really long periods, most of which is taken up by dreaming. The dreams are crazy. For example, in one dream I thought I'd discovered a flaw in mathematics, and my mind was working well enough that it made some sort of sense. But the horrible part is that the dreams are extremely tedious, and take place in real time. I had one in which I had to climb 200 flights of stairs with my leg that's in really bad shape now. And I experienced every single step. (That might not sound so bad, but trust me, you don't want to go through that.) Eventually I wake up, having no idea whether it's day or night, or what day it is.

Do be careful if you start using Phenibut. It is powerful stuff, and I have no idea why it's still legal, or at least requiring a prescription. I think it won't be too much longer before that happens. Amazon used to sell it, but not any more. I think they know something.

Also, the stuff I use is made in China, and comes with a chemical assay, for some reason. As a rule, I'd prefer not to take chemicals made in China. Yes, they do some things well, but often have issues with safety.

I looked into trying that awhile back, it was on Amazon a couple years ago but never did. I think it's best to just stick with stuff that's prescribed by a doctor and regulated by the FDA.

I forgot to mention a couple of things. When on Phenibut, when I eventually wake up I'll often find that I've done things I have no memory of. Yesterday I woke up and found that I'd opened a gallon jug of iced tea, then left it by my bed, undrunk. There was some papery stuff under my tongue. And in the middle of the night I put on an exercise mp3 player, volume full blast. Which woke me up right away.

Also, it really trashes my memory. Right now it's okay, since it's been a long time since I took it. But most of the day I could remember only 5 or 10 seconds at a time. I'd pick something up to move it, then couldn't find it in a few seconds.

But when you haven't slept for days, and the meds your doctor gave you aren't helping, the choice isn't as straightforward.
