I was told by a psychiatrist in the hospital that I had treatment resistant depression. I have been on tons of different anti-depressants and mood stabilizers. Some have helped for a period of time but then stopped. In 2013 I had 9 ECT treatments. I didn't really notice much of a difference in my depression. There was a little improvement, but I was also started on a new anti-depressant at the time. My depression has gotten so bad over the last year that
Possible trigger:
I am at a point where I desperately want to feel better. I am almost willing to see if more ECT would help. Does anyone know or have any personal experience on whether or not there is any reason to believe that it would work a second time if it didn't really work the first time? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Well you did say it worked maybe a little bit but you had started a new antidepressant too. Anyway, I had ECT when I was much younger but it didn't work. Times have changed though and I get ECT now for treatment resistant depression and it works wonderfully. I get it every 2 week and have no side effects. Best wishes to you.
Thanks for this!

I have experienced two separate rounds of ECT. The first time I was told I became very angry and was almost a different person. The next time It saved my life.

I had ECT over 30 times. I wasn't better after 9 times (from my limited memory of this time period). Maybe you just didn't have enough of it.

Good Luck!

Hi I'm Scott I've have treatment resistant depression for 22 years and over that time I've had 6 separate courses of Ect averaging 10 - 16 treatments at a time. I does help with my depression it just doesn't last and I've been told to have maintainance Ect which after the initial course have one treatment a month indefinitely to maintain the effect. Kinda crazy but people do it. Anyway in regards to weather another course would help that depends. First did you have enough treatments the first time? Were the treatments done Bi-lateral (both side of the Head) or un-lateral, just one side. Bi-lateral tends to work better especially for a stubborn depression. Also the Dr. you had matters, maybe get a second opinion from a more experienced Dr. I know there are some people who do not respond to Ect. I hope that helps if you have any other questions feel free to ask. I know what's its like to have such a depression, hang in there and good luck.
Thanks for this!

Two courses of treatment spaced two years apart. First one was a round of 5 treatments and while I did notice a difference the effect wasn't lasting. The second time was 9 treatments. I noticed a difference almost immediately and haven't seemed to fall back into depression yet since.

Wow. My mind is so blown from ECT I'd rather anything but any more treatments.
My first round was said to bring me out of a comotose state. I have no memory of being in the hospital or the ECT.
