My doctor made the suggestion of trying ECT. Not sure what to do and am really scared. Does it work? Is it expensive? Any assistance is very much appreciated.

It has worked for me, although I do maintenance ECT every two weeks. It has been the only thing that has helped my treatment resistant depression and constant suicidal thoughts. I have met my super high deductible so I am not quite sure of the cost. If you have been fighting depression for a long time I would definitely give it a try.
Thanks for this!

This is my option as well if my final appeal for TMS treatment from my insurance company fails. I am very frightened of ECT as well (like waking up in the hospital and not knowing where I am) and worry about damaging my teeth even if they give you an appliance during the procedure. they're in a very precarious state. Doing really, really bad though, can't continue like this.

It worked well to get me out of serious suicidal depression that was not responding to medication. It lifted the depression enough that meds were finally able to be put in place that worked pretty well. I had two series of treatments about 4 years apart (9 treatments the first time; 8 the second). Insurance covered the treatments, so expense will depend on what your insurance coverage is. I had some short-term memory issues surrounding the time just prior to and during treatment, but no long-term memory problems.
Thanks for this!

I did it regularly from 02/2015-07/2015. It completely turned my life around. I've been 100% med free for over a year and mostly symptom free! The side effects however were god awful and if I ever needed it again I'd be hesitant because of that.
