Has anyone had a vitamin d deficiency? Did you feel any different after raising your levels?

Yes. I have had a vit. D. deficiency and have raised my levels. I feel better, happier, etc. than I did when my level was first measured, but I don't think that the higher level is the only factor in improving my mood.

I've never had my vitamin D levels checked, but I do take a vitamin D supplement. I notice that it has a real impact on my mood, and I'm much less likely to be depressed when I take it.

My blood test results indicated extremely low Vit-D. Primary doc contacted me and recommended 10k units for 2 weeks, then go down to 1K daily. I have seen things improve, from mental health to stronger erections and greater arousal. I hope these changes are real and not just a coincidence and wishful thinking.

It is a coincidence that you posted this.
I have Vit D deficiency, thus as of yesterday, I starting taking 10K vitamin D. I hope that my experience will as positive as the above posters.
I will keep you updated.

I take prescription Vitamin D (2000 IU per day - whatever that means.) As a result, my Vitamin D numbers are back to normal. As another poster wrote, however, it's difficult to isolate which factors make the biggest difference. That stated, I know low levels of Vitamin D are closely associated with depression. As for the poster who suggested he had better erections while on Vitamin D, "Party on dude!"

A lot of people here up north have low levels. I never noticed a difference taking a supplement even if I tested a bit low. As for being low on B12 the difference was much more noticeable.

I had a really bad vit D deficiency a couple years ago. I mainly had physical symptoms before I got tested for it (I kept getting sick, for one thing). My levels are normal now. Its hard to really say if it changed much but I'm sure its better for my bones!

My vitamin D was a little low. My doctor told me to start taking a supplement. I noticed a slight improvement in my depression but no change in my anxiety.

Yeah, my levels were less than half of what they were supposed to be. Took some very strong drops for a month or 2 and just yesterday pdoc emailed me they are now actually higher than they should be. So I delegated the drops to the bottom drawer.

I took 10.000 U for about a month, and then 2000 U for 5 weeks or so.

I can't say I ever felt any different on Vitamin D. That being said my health seriously improved for the better. I am a big believer in Vitamin D now. In my 20s I had relatively high blood pressure 130 /80. But in 2008 I started taking Vitamin D to get my levels up and my BP dropped and has stayed there. 110/70... even though I am overweight.

I did see a study yesterday though that said Vitamin d won't be effective if you don't have magnesium so if you aren't noticing any change that could be a factor. I get most of my magnesium via pumpkin seeds.. and sometimes supplements.

I was low a couple times over the years but lately have only been using whatever is in a multivitamin. I also walk outside for a half hour daily, usually between 10 and 2, peak sun hours, no matter how cold. I am unsure if I get enough sunlight when wearing hat and scarf and coat?

I started taking 5000 vitamin D again after reading this thread-thank you! Didn't know it could make such a difference. I'll also make a point to be tested again soon.

I have very low vit D, and calcium. I found out after a bone scan that I lost 1 in, and 1/4th. Now I take suplments, and get a injection every 6 months for my bones to start making bone again. This problem has caused my body to be weak, and I can break a bone very easy. So ladies, please get a bone scan if you can!

I had low vitamin d in 2012. I didn’t have any symptoms before I got on the vitamin D pills and I felt no different after taking them.

My endocrinologist told me that vitamin D deficiency is on the rise because of all of zealous “avoid the sun” mentality. He also explained that low vitamin D levels can cause abnormal liver enzyme results in lab tests. It took a few months, but I do feel better. My hair is not falling out in clumps and my skin isn’t as dry. I take 2k units per day when I take my night Meds.

Interesting! I had a vit. D deficiency. I also take 2000 IUs with my meds at night. I didn't know why it was not a good thing to have though, I just had heard that it can cause depression. My doctor never really explained to me why its important to take a supplement. But I do.

For those who are saying they feel better with more D, how long did it take for you to start feeling the positive effects of the supplement?
Thanks for this!

My doctor prescribed the tablets as I had a deficiency. I’m not sure how much difference I’ve noticed but I’ve not been very well otherwise.
Thanks for this!
