How do you know when it's time to go to a mental hospital? I don't even know where one is in Los Angeles, much less one my health insurance accepts. Recently my psychologist had me fill out a new form that says during each video therapy session I must tell her where I'm at and where the nearest mental hospital is at. I don't see any listed in my health insurance books, so I just provide an ER (emergency room) hospital phone #. I read that an ER will take people who've attempted suicide, but would like to know what they do with them.
Anyhow I stopped taking my meds a few weeks ago because I was tired of my psychiatrist refusing to do refills, but suicidal ideation has become almost unbearable. I started taking my meds again. Hopefully everything will be okay. |

I think the key is whether you see you're a danger to yourself (suicide) or to others.

Ohm stahrgeyzer--I am very concerned about you. Stopping meds can be quite dangerous. If you are having SI struggles, please call the crisis line. There are probably several where you live, given the huge population. If you can't find one, just go to your local ER. They will take care of you.
If you are found to be a danger to self, they will keep you at whatever facility they either have, themselves, or refer to. But don't even think about that. Don't worry about that stuff--just go. Take care of yourself.!!! Please!!! You can sort everything else out later. Usually if you end up in the ER, they will assess your psychological state and determine whether they need to admit you to a psych ward. I am sorry you are dealing with this situation and I hope that you will find the help that you need. Suicidal ideation is really miserable, I have experienced it a lot. If all else fails, in an emergency you can call a hotline, also. Please be gentle with yourself and I hope you feel well soon.

Thanks for the replies! After taking the meds the deep depressing self-harming emotions went away and haven't returned. It's scary how meds can change your thinking.
Wishing everyone peace & happiness. Stay safe! |
