Long-term treatment for PTSD generally comes through private therapy. Most hospitals are short-term acute care facilities which serve for immediate safety and stabilization, not really set up for long-term treatment. Your personal psychiatrist and therapist would really be the primary resources for treatment.

I needed therapy. I was in pretty intensive therapy for about a decade in my 40s that finally got me to a place where my PTSD symptoms have largely subsided, and when they do come up, the symptoms now are pretty mild and I know have to manage them. I haven't been in therapy now for about 8 years I guess.
My condition did worsen at times; it was more like an ebb and flow depending on what was going on in my life. I finally the frame of mind in combination with the right therapist for me to work through the trauma issues that were continuously cropping up. I doubt I would still hold a PTSD diagnosis if reevaluated now; my symptoms are just not pervasive enough anymore. They crop up from time to time, but on a much more manageable level. |
