As someone who has experienced a great deal of trauma throughout my life, it's commonly said that I have to work hard at my mental health.

In fact, it takes up so much of my time that there is little time to be the real me.

I can't work full time. I self isolate. I feel on the edge of sanity most days. I have difficulty in relationships.

It's exhausting.

@DeeeSchmeee68 sorry to hear you are finding dealing with mental health issues an all consuming demand on your time.

Have you considered getting professional help?

I see a counselor every other week. I've been on so many medications that I'm labeled with treatment-resistant depression.
I think living alone is a struggle as well as reduced income.

@DeeeSchmeee68 I hear you. My friend has treatment resistant depression.

Lifestyle changes help like Adrienne or Palouse Yoga free on youtube, 5 minute Tai Chi free on youtube. I like walking in good weather.

I find my diet affects my moods. Carbohydrates feel like an instant high but I get tired or depressed later on. Check with doctor if on special diet before making changes.

What else have you tried?

You're so kind Another thing...

I've recently tried HRT but progesterone made me suicidal.
Ashwaganda, chelated magnesium, GABA, micro-dosing psilocybin and clonazepam works somewhat.

Most mornings I use my mini stepper while listening to self help mental health or affirmation videos

I'm sorry you're struggling. I've been in your shoes, not able to work full time, self-isolating, and having problems in relationships.

I too have a history of trauma, and what turned things around for me was getting real, good, trauma therapy. With trauma therapy I feel like I've made more progress in the past 3 years than I had in the preceding 20 of talk therapy.

The trauma therapy was brutally intense, but since doing it, I've been able to up my hours at work from 12/week to 32/week which is just short of full time, I genuinely like myself and my life, and I've started dating which felt impossible before. If you'd asked me 5 years ago if these things would be possible, I would have said not a chance.


I hope you too can find a solution that works for you.

May I ask what type of trauma therapy? I've done emdr and that helped a little.

My biggest hurdle is zero support system. So even when therapy is great, I'm all alone and have no one to talk to about it.

I've done EMDR and it did help me a bit.

The main trauma therapy I did was a really intense 8 week program, 5 half days a week. It was a mix of education, CBT, and relational therapy with some art therapy thrown in. It's kind of hard to describe but it didn't deal with processing the trauma, like EMDR does, instead it focused on the effects of trauma in your life now, and how to better manage them. Right now, I'm in a 9 month group that's 2 hours a week. It's relational therapy and I'm finding it really helpful.

I'm sorry you don't have supports IRL. I found my supports to be really important, in turning my life around.
