I am so sad. On Sunday, Mother's Day, our beloved Bichon Frise' dog, Bob, got very ill. At night we took him to the emergency vet, but they could not do enough to save him. He passed away early this morning, Monday, before dawn. I can't believe it.
All of the family but one (five of the six kids I claim) were here, and Bob died in my arms surrounded in his last hours by loving family members, both human and animal.
It is really just beginning to sink in.
We buried him in his favorite lounging spot in the daylillies, with his favorite toys and treats, wrapped in the T'shirt that bears his motto: "Don't Wanna, don't hafta, I'm Bob".
He could be a little terror sometimes, but he had more personality than 20 other dogs put together, and he was by far the world's most comical dog. He was also the love of Alan's life. I do no know how Alan will be able to cope, I really don't.
We will all miss him so much. I can't believe it. I've attached photos of Bob from Saturday.
The illness was brought on by a combination of diabetes and old age. Since he was a rescue nobody knew exactly for sure how old he was, but he was getting up there. In the end it was renal failure and hemmoragic gastroenteritis (sp?) that did him in.
RIP Bob. We love you.
Please keep him and us in your thoughts. Thanks.

I'm sorry Bob got sick and had to leave your family! I bet you miss him bad.

Bob can hang out in my safe room and play with all of us and the animals when he wants too. He will miss you too. He will come back to visit.

Hugs for you and your family.

How are you and the family doing? I hope the grief is a little better. Remember Bob's not suffering anymore and he's running like a pup with his wings!

I only start crying about once a day, now, instead of multiple times a day. I found that I can talk about it to people at work, but many things at home get me sad.

I have been doing some excessive hyperfocusing to avoid thinking about it. I can tell I am getting a little better, but it will be some time.

LizzyB has been wonderful for me, even while dealing with her own grief. During most of my life, I have rejected any semblance of an "afterlife" even though I have known it would make any loss like this more difficult. I appreciate your thoughts, but I have trouble seeing Bob as an angel in heaven when I know -- I saw him placed there -- that he is in a hole in our yard covered with dirt. I have some real issues with the idea of non-existence, to the point I will feel acutely anxious at the thought of my own demise and this anxiety seems to have manifested in this case of losing someone this close to me. Despite that, I cannot see the idea of an afterlife as any more plausible than time travel or telekinesis.

Sorry to ramble in response to your kind words, but I haven't been able to voice these thoughts since last Sunday's events.

I am so sorry for your pet loss.

I have 2 dogs and lost 2 dogs in the past.

The dog is innocent and brings me great happiness.

Losing a pet is very painful and I felt like losing a family.

I hope your pain will be gone and cherish the wonderful memories with Bob.
Thanks for this!
