Our little mini schnauzer, Cherie', loves treats. What doggie doesn't. But I think.....no, I KNOW.....we spoiled her. Now, she expects them. We were feeding her the Science Diet Little Bites but we found out that she likes to crunch the bigger food. So, we started buying her the bigger bites.

This morning, she was not eating her dog food so I thought that I'd try to get her to eat some by tossing it to her like we do her treats because she loves that and she's quite a good catch.

So, I tossed one to her. She caught it and tossed it right back to me!!! Geez, I guess she made her point!

Doggie learned a new trick

Looks determined, doesn't she.

just one reason why I'm very strict about spoiling my animals

I love 'em to death and I let them know it but I don't want to spoil them because then they get bratty

But still...this is very cute
Thanks for this!

Perhaps it's the dog food itself. For the last several years we switched to the small kibble Science diet itself had because it's easier for our tiny Yorkie. I thought our Boston was going to kill herself on it because she literally inhales it. So we went to the next larger kibble and the Yorkies wouldn't touch it. The Boston could care less, but it gave her serious gas issues and made her poo VERY stinky. Our oldest son cleans the dog run out and he begged us to go back to the other stuff because the stench was so bad.

I've notice that the tiny stuff is much darker in color than the bigger stuff (all the same flavor, Lamb and Rice I believe). Maybe it has a different flavor.

She's the funniest dog, AAAAA. If you give her the treats, she'll then go over to the bowl and chomp down a bowl full of food. But if she's wanting a treat but it's not time, she won't accept a substitution. She gets treats every day at 4pm. We've started breaking them in half because she is eating too much treats and can count! If she doesn't get the proper number, she stands around or barks at us until she gets the proper number of treats. We have a grandfather clock that my father made. It chimes at four oclock. We tell her to wait for the ding dong. When it chimes four, she starts jumping around and yipping. Darndest thing you ever saw. She plays catch with the tennis ball and throws it back to you. That's what she did with her piece of dog food when I tossed it to her!

Aww that's the cutest thing I ever heard!

The same happened with my little yorkie. I tried giving her the bigger biscuits, but she wouldn't eat them so maybe they do have a different flavour.. I don't know. Or maybe these little doggies are just being bratty about it! :P

Maybe try going back to the smaller biscuits and see how that goes. Your little dog is very cute though

Your dog is adorable Vickie. Before we bought our dog we almost considered getting a schnauzer(love that mustache look). Our dog loves everything and we've had to limit her treats because she was gaining too much weight. The vet told us to put all her treats for the day in a small cup and when that's finished - not to give her more.
When I say she eats anything I mean it - she even ate others dogs pooh, SO disgusting. I make fresh ginger tea(good for the stomach) and when I offered her a slice she turned her head and walked away. Finally I found one thing she won't eat!! Thanks for sharing pics of your cutie.

A friend of mine has a shnauzer that looks just like yours and a Boston. Now prior to this Boston I thought that they were the ugliest dogs I'd ever seen. This Boston was also ugly, but she was the sweetest thing you've ever met.

She had a hard time potty training her, so she would give her a t-r-e-a-t (which she now knows that it spells treat so each time you have to come up with another name) every time she went outside. To this day, she HAS to have her treat when she comes back in the house. She'll spin and jump five feet in the air, while spinning to let you know that you've forgotten to give her a treat.

She is also manner challanged. My dogs sit patiently and wait for their turn getting treats. The get them according to age, Yorkie, Boston, Yorkie, they know when it's there turn and will not attempt to get a treat from another. My friends dog however felt if it wasn't fully in your mouth, you didn't want it that bad and she'd snatch it away. When she took one from our Rott's mouth it was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. The Rott was big enough to swallow that little Boston whole, but she just sat there head cocked, ever so confused. The Boston would also run and sit between the dogs waiting in line for their treat (she got hers first as she was a guest) as if we were too forgetful to know she'd already had hers.
