Is it true? Could I possibly love dogs more than people? I enjoy some people and I even love them but most of the time I just want to hang around with my dogs. They don't give me a hard time. Is there something wrong with me??? Thank you

I bet that in your past you have found people could not be trusted. It makes sense that you would love and trust your dogs more than people. I am that way too. My horse is my best friend and I trust him. I know what to expect from him. People may deceive and disappoint but my horse is trustworthy.

i wouldn't say there's anything wrong with you. i have a hard time letting people in and then when i do the more i get to know them the more dissapointed i get...so i fall back on my trustworthy companions. they only ask for the simple things in life and give love in return.

I have had a few dark moments when it seemed as if I was pretty much irrelevant to the world, when I would half seriously say the same things you are saying. Because its true, when the going gets tough, animals simply give you love and accept yours in return without asking questions.
But in the end you have to realise that our true calling is in relating to people. That is what we are meant to do, no matter how hard it can be. Turning your back on the world is not a good option. __________________ YOU are a beautiful, inherently powerful, irreplaceable, unique and wonderful being of infinite worth and value. |

Well we could take this both ways - funny and serious. I think you ask a good question. I actually get along with my dog better than anyone lol. I think if you're worried, then you should determine why you find being around people less fulfilling? I can relate to how you feel though.

Hi imahag! Welcome! I entirely understand why someone would love dogs more than they love people and I don't personally think there is anything wrong with that at all. I'm so happy for you that you know, and experience daily, the joy and unconditional love that dogs bring to our lives. I love dogs more than words can say!!!

I'm with you on loving my dogs & horses more than anything in this world (other than my daughter)......that huge heart feeling I get when I'm surrounded by my dogs (still waiting to get my horses moved to my farm). I have wonderful friends & they mean the world to me too, but being around my dogs 24/7 surrounded by all the love....nothing can be better. I know how wonderful it will be when I get my horses here also. I was alway with Izzy when I lived in Ca.....never wanted to leave her either. Their unconditional love lets me know that I am capable of giving unconditional love also & that is a good thing to know at times.

I can relate to that, doesn't sound so off to me.
I believe that dogs are superior to human in a certain angle, that of sense development, you know? I also believe that dog lovers, despite mental health issues, have all experienced at least one moment in their lives when they felt that the dog could understand them when no person would... |

I love my dog more than most people too. He is the only one I know who won't ever judge me or leave me. I am very emotional about animals, especially dogs. I often even get more upset if I hear about a hurt dog, than a hurt person. I would give my life to save my dog in an instant.

Dunno... might have to argue that you have poor judgement... CATS are far better than dogs or humans! LOL

Nothings wrong with you or that. I have a few close people, but other than that, it's my animals that I spend my time with most. I'd rather spend time with them than even my own mother.
When I was growing up, we had a dog (Otis who was an oversized pug mix) and on the prioity list, him and many other things came first to my parents before I did. But at the same time, I could talk to him, and he would somewhat respond (more than any teddy bear could do), so in a sense, he was my friend, just like a human friend would be. I spent most of my time with him. __________________ .........

Pink said in an interview once that we should lock up all the people and free all the animals. I was already a fan before that but that pretty much sealed the deal.

Hi Imahag, I am new too but I have 3 dogs and I know how you feel. Dogs love you unconditionally, they do not judge you, they do not blame you, they do not make you feel bad about yourself. They are always happy to see you and want to please you and get pets. You aren't crazy I always say my Bonnie is my best friend and she always will be. This doesn't mean you can't make people friends too but I always say best friends are few and far between. To find someone who enjoys what you do, loves you as you are and that you can trust and that won't betray you are out there but as I tell my kids that normally you can count your best friends on one hand.... there are acquaintances, there are lovers, and there are true blue friends and they will rarely let you down and always love you....but dogs or pets mostly love you unconditionally!!!

I used to feel very attached to my pets growing up. I loved them so much I ached to hold them. They were taken violently over and over and it is hard to get attached again. At times I go through, "oh, I want a dog, when I get my own house, I'm going to get a dog." Then reality hits. oh sh**. I can hardly touch my friend's dogs/cat. They have the kind of dog I would get if I did get one. I feel repulsed and don't know why. There won't be a dog as long as this keeps happening. I'm afraid I wouldn't take very good care of it then. Would like to learn to allow myself to love a pet again. maybe in time.

My ex tried to explain his feelings for me many years ago. I looked at him bewildered and said "do you love me like I love my animals".. I was shocked to hear it come out of my mouth but as an equal parrallel I could not fathom what he was talking about. People are not anywhere near worth the same kind of loving as animals...btw I still have my animals.

Welcome to PsychCentral, imahag! (I'm sure you're not a hag.) Hope you make lots of friends here.
I love animals more than people, and as you can see, we're not the only ones. I love my mom and my late dad very much, but I can also say I don't/didn't have the best relationships with them. I don't have a dog right now, but we do have a bird, and I love him to pieces! __________________ Maven If I had a dollar for every time I got distracted, I wish I had some ice cream.
