I posted about my kitten that was killed by one of my dogs. Another member gave me the idea of posting a tribute to her. So here goes...
I named her Evie which was short for Evenrude because her "motor" was so loud. She purred whenever she was in contact with me. She was my "traveling cat". I spend a couple of nights a week away from home because of work. I would take her with me for the company. She would curl up in her carrier next to me a sleep or call for my attention so I'd put a finger through the front of the carrier to let her rub her head on it. She was deaf as a post so could not hear herself. If she couldn't see where I was it meant I was "lost" so she'd yell her head off until I came and found her. She wanted physical conact with me whenever we were together. She was learning to ride around on my shoulders so she could be with me, but I could get on with the things I had to do. We only had six weeks together, but we were so close. I miss her something fierce. Thankfully a couple of my friends were here when she was killed. They helped me bury her. I said a few words to her to thank her for being in my life and tell her how much I would miss her. One of my friends said a kind of blessing over her and thanked her for the love and happiness she brought me. I put a statue of St Francis over where she's buried. My Mom was Catholic and St. Francis was her favorite saint. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals. The statue belonged to Mom so it has a special meaning for me. I buried Evie under a bush next to my front steps so I can stop and talk to her when I go in the house. For a little animal who was with me a short time she's left a HUGE hole in my heart. I love all of my animals, but she was one of the special ones. I miss you little one. |
